It is far too easy to get caught up in all the promotions, banner ads and emails we see that promise you instant money and success. Most of us have fallen victim to this, and carried on starry-eyed already spending the truckloads of money that we were sure to make in the next week. Don't worry. All of the internet 'gurus' who make, or claim to make massive cash, all started out like you and I. Nobody was successful at this overnight, although I do not doubt the earning potential I read about, rest assured that these people failed and failed before they got it right. So let's move on into what you can expect, and what you need to succeed. Don't quit your day job just yet......

Do you have what it takes? Running your own online business is not for everyone, so take a good hard look at what you really want and ask yourself if you are willing to dedicate some time and a little money to run your internet enterprise.

3 things you'll need to ask yourself in order to run an online business. Remember, you need to treat this like a real business, rather than a hobby, that is if you want to make money at it.

1. What are my goals? Write them down. Have a clear picture of what exactly you want to achieve. If it's money (duh) then how much do you want to make in the next month? 3 months? 1 year? I have a feeling your goals will change slightly to reflect the fact that the program you signed up for isn't quite delivering the 50K a month you were desperately hoping for. Again I must stress, lots of people do make boatloads of money, but plugging into their system won't duplicate their success. Why not? Read on....

2. How much time and money am I willing to spend? Just like your goals, set up a budget for your online campaign. Do not go out and spend $50/day on Google Adwords if you're not sure what you are doing. Some people actually set their daily budget at $5000.00!! Of course, they have figured out how to make $6 or 7000 every day, so they net 1 or 2 thousand dollars. I wouldn't recommend this route if you're not a Google Adwords pro. There are many ways to promote your business that are very low cost or even free. When just starting out, set your budget small and slowly increase your spending comfort zone as you see more and more success.

3. Are you going to be consistent with your goals? I cannot answer that one for you. It goes back to the reason why some succeed and others fail. Now just know, that you don't need to spend all day every day tweaking your site or strategizing to get more traffic, but you do need to have a certain level of commitment to run a successful internet business. It's actually amazing what you can accomplish in an hour if you have your mind set on your goals. Baby steps.

It takes time to build an online reputation, a following, and success. Rome wasn't built in a day, but if you stay persistent and have patience, then you have what it takes to be successful.
