The American insanity: part three
65The American pharmaceutical industry is the icon of capitalism as well as the Jekyll and Hyde of American culture. On the one hand, pharmaceuticals are a modern marvel and help countless people live with all sorts of debilitating health issues; this makes the industry “God-like” and very necessary for those unfortunates who simply can not live without their products. On the other hand, the “Hyde-hand”, pharmaceuticals have taken control of millions of lives through products which are addictive and unnecessary. Here’s an example:
My friend Richard sometimes experiences a bit of stress from his morning commute to the next town and he doesn’t like the way it makes him feel. During his last visit to his PPO, the subject of stress was brought up and his doctor thought it might help Richard feel better if he gave a “mood enhancer” a try. The PPO scribbles out a prescription and the next thing you know Richard can’t endure life with his daily dose of Prozac--problem solved, right? Now, Richard can make his twenty mile journey through the jungle of churches, banks, SUV’s, and convenience stores without feeling a thing because he has been numbed.
The thing I wonder about, however, is this; if something in Richards’ commute was causing my friend to feel so stressed, is it really smart to numb his brain to the cause of it? Wouldn’t it be helpful to pin-point the cause of the stress and change it in a way that would be healthier for Richards’ state of mind? I’m not a very smart man, but it would make a fair amount of sense to believe that our bodies react to certain conditions as a warning that something is wrong, don’t you think? This is the problem with the pharmaceutical industry; they have a pill for anything that ails you. If your overweight, they have a pill that will help you loose weight, never mind eating your vegetables and turning off the television in favor of a walk through the neighborhood. If you can’t get to sleep on time, they have a pill for that. Problem getting aroused? They have a pill for that too. You name it, the pharmaceutical Gods have something you can swallow so you won’t have to deal with it any longer.
Makes one wonder how humanity endured for all these thousands of years without a pharmacy doesn’t it? The people who were natives of America didn’t have pharmaceuticals. Perhaps if they did, they wouldn’t have had to deal with the stress caused by their systematic genocide. Richard doesn’t think about the native-Americans much; his brain is too numb from the Prozac I suppose. What he does think about is the weekend. In fact, Richard spends so much time thinking about the weekend that his effectiveness at work is diminished by his lack of concentration. What does Richard do to make money you ask?
Richard gets jobs doing the electrical wiring in new houses. These new houses are all owned by banks who let other people live in them if they promise to give the banks huge sums of money every month. Richard's job used to pay good, but now that the economy in struggling in America, it doesn’t pay that great anymore. The reason the American economy is struggling is because some suit wearing idiots, who own a lot of banks, were handing out too much money so people can get what they want. The idiots handed out more money than they actually had to give, and that created a big problem.
The American government wants these idiots to keep giving out money so that people can get what they want, so the government decided to give the idiots billions of dollars that was given to them by the people who like coffee and cigarettes. See the cycle here? One of the effects caused by the idiots who gave away more money than they actually had is that a lot of people lost their jobs in the next town. This is a huge problem. Now, those unemployed drones can’t buy coffee from South America, which means that the dairy farmers will be selling less cream. There is no need for the unemployed to give away money for fuel because they don’t commute any longer, and they will have to give up smoking because they can’t afford the five dollar per pack price. Which means the government can’t get the money from the sell of all those things, so how can they afford to give the idiots billions of dollars? Totally insane.
Another industry hit hard by the idiots are the pharmaceutical Gods. Without a job, people lose their health insurance, which means they can’t get their mind numbing Prozac, which really cuts into the profits of the Gods. What we are left with is a huge mess: The cycle of giving our money away is broken by the idiots in suits who took giving away money to an extreme. So what can we do to fix it? Here’s an idea; fire the idiots from their jobs and give the jobs to people who know how to budget money! Simple, yes? Those idiots obviously never had to balance a check book, plan and save for a vacation, or decide which bill was most important to pay that particular week. Any one in the working class knows that there is only so much money to give away, so we prioritize to stay in budget. Why do the idiots who screwed up our cycle and put us all on Prozac make more money than the working class? They are obviously less smart when it comes to handling money, so why do they have that job? Insanity.
In-sane' adj. crazy; not legally responsible for one's actions;that is the definition according Webster. Think about that. "Not legally responsible for one's actions" fits why the idiots don't get fired but still receive their millions of dollars in bonus money for screwing up our cycle. The definition works for the pharmaceutical companies who addict our citizens to crap they would be healthier without. It fits the government who committed genocide on the native Americans, enslaved the black race, bomb the shit out of other nations, and gives away billions to the idiots who screwed up our cycle. It fits the mega-profit church business who takes from the poor and buys a Mercedes too.
Poor Richard; he thinks he might be insane sometimes, He is totally sane but made to live in an insane system. At least he still has a job, for now, and that will get him some coffee, with cream, cigarettes to enjoy on his carport, and his mind-numbing Prozac to get through the day.

Thanks for reading papajack. My mother is using an accupuncturist as well and is also saving big $'s. I hope you are well, remember to write!
What an excellent hub! ..and I couldn't agree more! What I don't understand though, is why more people don't see it. Could it be all those prescriptions have caused irreperable numbness of the brain?!?!
Hi G.L.A., and thanks for reading. I suppose your right. My wife works in a clinic and sees people come in all the time for refills on narcotics. I think we are a nation of medicated people and it makes me wonder...

You hit my pet peeve today. Doctors, the nations most active drug pushers. I've started going to an accupuncturist and the improvements I've felt have easily outdistanced the treatments that cost $17,000.00 each.
