Every male’s penis is divided anatomically in three parts:
1) The root of the penis is the part that is connected to the pubic bone and holds it still when the penis is erect. The root is the part where ligaments between penis and the pubic bones are inserted.
2) The body of the penis is the biggest part of it. The body itself consists of other three parts: 2 cavernosal bodies and a spongiosum body. The two cavernosal bodies, also known as erectile bodies are responsible for erection. The erection of the penis appears when those two bodies are filled with blood, as well as spongiosum body. The urethra transverse the corpus spongiosum through all its way.
3) The glans penis is the distal (lowest) expansion of the corpus spongiosum. It is the most sensitive part of the penis, covered with prepuce – the loose skin that covers the gland of uncircumcised penis.
Penis is extremely well irrigated by blood. The blood, which is necessary not only for tissue survival, but also for erections (remembers the cavernosal bodies?) is supplied by the internal pudendal artery. This artery comes from a very big internal iliac artery. The internal iliac artery also supply blood to feet. The internal pudendal artery branches in the penis in the deep artery of the penis (this one will divide later in cavernosal arteries and will supply blood needed for erections), the urethral artery (this one will follow the urethra and will supply blood to the urethra and to the glans penis, as well as to the corpus spongiosum) and in the bulbar artery (responsible for bulbar urethra and the bulbospongiosus muscle). The penis is a highly vascular organ and is supplied by the internal pudendal artery. The internal pudendal artery rises from the internal iliac artery (ie, hypogastric artery), which then branches into the deep artery of the penis, the bulbar artery, and the urethral artery. The deep artery of the penis becomes the cavernosal arteries, which supply the entire corpus cavernosum. The urethral artery supplies the glans penis and corpus spongiosum. The bulbar artery supplies the bulbar urethra and the bulbospongiosus muscle
