The Cost of Electrolysis is the higher when compared to the other methods of hair removal but, for many, the price may be worth it because it is the only form of hair removal that is 100% permanent. The cost of the equipment and the high degree of competence required by the electrologist makes electrolysis a very expensive yet effective method of hair removal. Most states regulate the practice and licensing of electrologists because of the delicate nature of the procedure. Unlike laser hair removal where the procedure should be done by a certified laser technician, if certified, cosmetologists and aestheticians can also perform the process of electrolysis.

The cheapest methods of hair removal are tweezing and shaving. While tweezing requires a one time investment on good tweezers, shaving requires constant replacement of the razor and blades; not to mention shaving cream. Waxing is costlier but has better long term effects. Depilatory creams and lotions cost more than waxing but the chemicals they contain are often harmful to the skin. The closest competitor for the Cost of Electrolysis is laser hair removal. Like electrolysis the effects of hair reduction are long lasting. Laser hair removal, however, requires fewer sessions and the maximum cost for hair removal on the back is about $900.

Electrolysis is a time consuming procedure that has to be done follicle by follicle. Electrologists charge by time. Lower prices are reason for suspicion because the equipment is expensive and the process takes a long time. The Cost of Electrolysis is in proportion to the area of hair growth treated. The minimum rates vary between about $25 and $35 for a 15 minute session. While this may seem reasonable, it can take up to two hours to remove hair by electrolysis from a full back, multiply that by weekly or monthly visits and factor in that it could take up to four years to complete; you’ll quickly see how the price adds up quickly. Laser hair removal is a more cost effective method when compared to electrolysis, but many consumers choose electrolysis because it is the only way to guarantee that you’ll be hair free.
