Religion & Spirituality are...changing.

Heaven or Hell? God or the Devil? The end of the world? Or the end of the word of God?? Many religions and faiths say the end is near... are they just doomsayers? Or is it in the bible....but even if it is/was, can't we just edit it out?

The New International Version (NIV) of the bible is about to undergo its first revision after 25 years. The new changes are supposed to make it more modern in language and change gender terms. The changes are prompted after scholars have agreed on their recent advances in understanding the text.

Apparently it is like any other thing... the more you learn and grow, and obtain new understanding and wisdom, the more changes we can make to the bible?

Keith Danby, the CEO of of Biblica, a Colorado Springs based christian ministry hold the copyright. He claims "they" want english speakers across the world to be provided with a bible that is accurate and accessible. Hmmm so "they" must be the authority on bible interpretation? A corporation?

The new version drops gender specific terms wherever the translators judged that the original text did not intend it. Now, some verses references to "sons of God" became "children of God".

Some people feel it makes sense and others say have twisted the meaning.

If you do not like it, too bad! Once the new version comes out, the old version will cease to be produced.

The NIV was first published in 1978 and more than 300 Million are out in the public worldwide. The translation accounts for 30 percent of the Bibles sold in the United States. Hmmm... is this only for profit? Are these changes made so that millions of people will go buy new bibles and companies lilbe Biblica, Inc., will make a fortune?

I guess it's all about money... business as usual. Or is it?

I think the issue of use of male nouns has been a question for sometime. Adam in the Bible, for instance, refers to the entire human population after the first "Adam" was created. Now, with feminism, the idea of using "man" as in "mankind", can seem a little exclusive, giving casual readers the idea that the Bible is misogynistic. So, this may be another attempt at correcting that severe misunderstanding (not the first attempt either).

I'm not a fan of the NIV. Its language is diluted to me. The NIV isn't so accurate anyway.

Even though it is hard to understand I still feel the KJV is the most accurate. Trouble is many words have changed their meaning such as "suffer" as in "suffer the little children". Finding the meaning for a word for that day is the key to the KJV. If there is a question about a scripture you can always go to the Strongs to find the original meaning. You'll have to do that for all the other translations anyway. So, might as well just use the KJV and learn how to read the Kings English.

And what's the deal with changing the gender? Are we going to let the PC people dictate to us now? Thats pretty chicken.
