Or How to Pamper Yourself for Nothing

Forget paying a fortune for beauty treatments at a spa, simply go to your fridge and treat yourself to a healthy do-it-yourself makeover. Save a fortune on shop bought beauty products and make your own using every day items that you already have.

Brighten and Refresh Your Eyes

Give Yourself a Facial

Natural yoghurt can be used to cleanse and exfoliate the face. 1) Mix with oatmeal to create a moisturizing and gently exfoliating cleanser. Wash off with warm water. 2) Mix with honey and apply with cotton wool for a moisturizing cleanser. Not only useful as a cleanser but it also moisturizes your skin.

To refresh your eyes slice a cucumber and cover eyes to cool, refresh and lessen dark circles.

Cold water applied with cotton wool makes a refreshing toner. For greasy skin add a few drops of lemon juice to cold water. For normal skins add a few drops of cucumber juice.

An enriching face masque can be made by mashing an avocado with a tablespoon of natural yoghurt or cream.

Don't Throw Away Tasteless Strawberries!

Treat Your Hands and Feet

Your hands and feet can experience the spa treatment by mashing eight strawberries with two tablespoons of olive oil and a tablespoon of course sea salt.  Massage into hands and/or feet to moisturize and exfoliate.

Pamper Your Body

To moisturize the body add one cup of milk to warm bath water. Whilst the bath is running hang a muslin bag of oats under the taps.

Nourish Your Hair

Moisturize your hair with a masque made from mashed avocado or mango mixed with cream or natural yoghurt.  (You could treat your face at the same time!)

Rinse with a herb infusion such as chamomile, thyme or rosemary.  A useful way to use those herbs left wilting in the bottom of the fridge.

Waste Not Want Not

Instead of throwing out those tired and wilting fruits, vegetables or sad herbs, use a bit of ingenuity and whip up a refreshing and nutritious beauty treat.

Other Ideas

Do you have any other ideas for ingredients you can find in the fridge that can be turned into pampering beauty treatments?  Please share.  I'd love to give myself a frugal pampering treat at least once a week but without spending any money or leaving the house!  However, I don't want to be boring and use the same ingredients in the same way each time.  I'm also trying to prove to my husband that I am not wasting any fresh food.
