There comes a time in everyones life when it is no longer prudent to live with mom and dad. Usually at the time when a person graduates for high school and moves out of their parents house to go to college or start their adult life. At the age of eighteen a person is considered an adult and sets out into the world to make a life for themselves. Some young adults go on to college while others join the workforce full time and still others are recruited and enlist in one of the five branches of the military.

The army, navy, air force, marines and coast guard recruit seniors coming out of high school for tours in the United States armed services. While there are option for reserve personnel and full time positions available those that enlist for a four or six year commitment to the military are rewarded with signing bonuses, college tuition funding and full medical benefits.

There are many advantages for young adults to join one of the military branches and work their way through an educational course that gives valuable skills for reentering the private sector once the length of volunteer service has been reached. The life skills taught by the military carry over to a full and prosperous life for many veterans that have chosen to devote their time and energy to the service of their country.

After going through basic training of six to eight weeks new recruits are given a choice of technical schools to attend where they specialize in one area for the remainder of their service commitment. Tech schools offer courses in communications, weapons specialties, medical training, vehicle maintenance and repair, and a number of other highly specialized fields that offer challenging instructional development for the enlisted personnel.

The life of a member of the military is one that can open up a new and exciting world with opportunities to travel and develop greater confidence and physical fitness for the recruits that enter into a service commitment with the United States government. From the age of 18 to 40 men and women are encouraged to volunteer for military service and go through a complete physical and medical inspection to determine their ability to fulfill the requirements of the demands placed upon the human body. While other countries around the world have a mandated two-year military experience for young men and women before they enter college the United States military is a completely voluntary organization that is headed up by the department of defense.

There are many benefits that are available for men and women that chose to serve their country both while they are enlisted in the military and after they are discharged from service once their commitment has been fulfilled. The office of veterans Affairs administers and provides benefits for military personnel with medical facilities and insurance, to providing financial services that are exclusive to those that have served their country in any of the branches of the military. Offering everything from automobile loans to consolidation loans to mortgages for first time homebuyers and refinancing options for veterans that are already purchasing a home the VA loan services make it simple for active and retired military personnel to manage the financial affairs of tens of thousands of men and women that have faithfully fulfilled their obligation of volunteer service.

While serving in the military may involve moving several times throughout a career of service there are assignments that enable a person to settle into an area and establish roots in a community. For military personnel that have families the benefits of base housing make it an option to buy a home while serving in the armed forces. The programs and options that are available through the VA home loans enable the smooth financial transition of mortgages and refinancing of houses that are purchased by military personnel either while on active duty or as a retiree after spending time in the service of the United States.

The benefits of military service are exemplary and often exceed any benefits that can be gleaned through working in the private sector of business and industry. While the VA office only extends benefits to military personnel their extensive list of healthcare and financial services for armed forces personnel is impressive and for anyone that is considering a career in the service of the United States government the benefits of education, travel, adventure and career training cannot be compared to the available offerings of the United States military.

For the recruits coming out of high school the bonuses and college tuitions that are available for new enlistees of the military can add up to some serious money. Right now the available signing bonus for an eight-year commitment to military service is around $40,000 for those that qualify and are interested in serving their country while adding to their financial support for college and continued education. Ad to that the GI Bill that can be used to pay for tuition, books and living expenses and the benefits of service really begin to add up and make sense for anyone that is looking for a rewarding start to moving out of their parents house and finding a camaraderie that is only available to those that enlist in the military.

Even after completing an assignment with the military the VA office continues to provide support to past members of the armed forces and gives them the extended benefits of healthcare and insurances that are far better than any benefit that can be found by civilians retiring from civilian life. Even after a career of twenty-years, which is the typical maximum length of service for enlisted personnel the benefits offered by the Veterans Administration carry over for the rest of a persons life and can save them thousands of dollars on their medical care and financial obligations.

The VA home loans alone offers no down payment for mortgages and low interest rates that add up to thousands of dollars in savings and can be applied for at anytime by qualifying members of the military, whether past or present. There is no limit to the number of times VA loans can be used so even those that have the moving bug and pick up roots every few years can continue to be approved for VA home loans whenever the urge to move strikes.

With all of the financial aid and bonus that the military has to offer along with the outstanding training and preparation for careers both inside and out of the military the choice is simple for college bound students to gain an advantage in life by joining a branch of the United States military and getting a head start on life.
