The Benefits of Tea Tree Oil
76The benefits of tea tree oil are innumerable. Tea tree oil is a skin care miracle. This is a native of Australia, where over 300 species of tea trees grow naturally. Latterly tea tree oil has become a natural ingredient in all kinds of cosmetic products such as face soaps, shampoos and ointments.
Tea tree oil has amazing healing powers. This essential oil has been used for soothing skin and as a remedy for wounds and cuts by the aboriginal tribes in Australia for thousands of years. Apart from this, it is effectively being used to treat insect bites, athlete’s foot, blisters, burns, abscess, oily skin, acne, rashes, spots and warts. It is found to be effective to cure diaper rash, sunburns, smelly feet and problems related to toenail infections. The aboriginals have known this secret to healthy and glowing skin for centuries.
When tea tree leaves are crushed, it produces an essential oil with components in varying amounts. This oil is used extensively in aromatherapy and is so potent that it can be diluted up to many times its volume without losing its original effectiveness. It’s extremely useful in all kinds of skin and hair care.
You can add a few drops of tea tree oil to your regular shampoo to treat hair problems like persistent dandruff and itchy scalp. Massage it in, leave it on for 5-7 minutes and rinse off. It will even prevent head lice. Adding a few drops in pet shampoo helps keep tics and rashes at bay.
A tea tree oil remedy can be utilized to care for a large assortment of medical problems. The oil can be inhaled by adding few drops in a vaporizer or steam bath, by doing this it provides an instant remedy for constant cold and cough. Daily use of this oil has been reported to be very effective against bronchitis, asthma, cough, catarrh, tuberculosis and sinusitis.
Tea tree oil is a general disinfectant and can remedy genito-urinary tract infections like vaginitis, thrush, pruitis and cystitis. It is also found that this oilcan act as an immune system booster. It enables the body to battle against many infections. Using tea tree oil is especially helpful if the body has previously become weak due to stress, illness or after extended treatment with antibiotics. The anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties of tea tree oil explain its extensive use in toothpastes, soaps, gargles, deodorants, germicides, disinfectants, colognes and aftershaves.
Although tea tree oil has no known side effects, one study shows that tea tree oil may possibly alter hormone levels. Occasionally some individuals may be sensitive to it and have allergic reactions, such as mild contact dermatitis or blisters and rashes. Undiluted or not properly mixed with carrier oil, tea tree oil can cause redness, skin irritation, itching and blistering.
Although it appears to be safe for other animals, it is advised not to use tea tree oil on cats.

Thanks for all the great information. Something else that has worked for me, is while I had a horrible sinus infection, I put a couple of drops in my neti pot and it helped a lot.
I don't know this from personal experience, but have read multiple places that tea tree oil is poisonous to some animals and ***should NOT be used on cats.***
It seems to be safe for dogs, however, if you want to rid them of fleas.
Get a spray bottle of water, add some tea tree oil. Drench coat in mixture, let sit for a moment, and rinse out.
Hi T, I'll see what I can find out about the pets and add it to the hub if it's definitive. Thanks for the input.
When I was young and wilder, ( in my 20's) than I am now, I had my nipples pierced, and used what is known as a barbell adornment. I used tea tree oil as a disinfectant, Not only did it prevent any infections, it also helped heal the skin around the piercing.
I know it is alos been used by and in hospitals as an anti bactiral, against staff incetions, and worked when no other man made disenfectant failed in preventing hte spred among patents.
More recently over a 4 year peroid I have had to undergo eight surgerys, After the first surgery I ended up in intestive care. At which point my barbell pricing had to be removed. When I got home after several days in hospital, I found I could not re inset my barbells due to an infection, I simply used tea tree oil and it cleared up any infection, it also healed the skin making it grow over the piercing hole. I found upon leaving the hospital after surgery number 8 I found I had mager skin problems, my sculp and face, as you can imagine, I became very self conises about the the face part, I have been using tea tree oil, and it is helping to restore my facial skin and sclup back to normal skin.
I have also used it on several surgical scares and it is helping reduce their appearance. So yes Tea tree oil is as I have found a wonderful natural all round excellent treatment over the years.
