Ipod docking stations are the way to go if you are interested in letting yourself or others share your music...without headphones.  Docking stations come in a variety of formats and features.  Here are some of my best recommendations for getting the best ones:

A remote control.  You definitely need one if you have many songs.  Sometimes you will also want to change the mood of the music you are listening to..  and sometimes you have to change the songs that your "friends" start yelling about!  Most quality docking stations will have a small remote included.  This is a must have feature.

Charging capability.   Sometimes its just easier  to listen and charge your Ipod up at the same time.  You will not need a computer to do this.

Audio/ Video Outputs.  I hook up the outputs of my docking station to my home stereo.  You then get great sound and Loud music through- out your place.  Great for disturbing your neighbors.  You also will not wear your ipod battery down when playing your songs.

Speakers are a another component of Ipod docking stations.  High end systems have fantastic sound.  Unfortunately you will have to pay for this option.  Bose , Aztec Lansing, JBL and B & W all offer premium high end docking station sound.  Naturally, if you can, try to listen to different docking stations in the store.  Most store displays are similar to real life, no fancy listening rooms to distort your perceptions.  They are in an electronics aisle for you to try out.  If you can't visit a store, I would do some online research.......  Fortunately you have come to the right spot for that!

For the very best sound, these high end docking stations are for those who place a high premium on sound.  The most unusual and expensive is the B & W Zeppelin.  If you know about B & W speakers, you will like the Zeppelin.  I listened to the speaker at an Apple store and was impressed with the clarity of sound.  ( Disclosure... I have a pair of Nautilus home speakers that I really enjoy).   

Next up is the Bose Sound Dock.  A great product that offers portability and great  sound.  It can run on a rechargeable battery for on the go music.

Finally the IM7, this is one of best sound docks out there....If you are unsure as to the quality, check out all those reviews on Amazon over 400 HUNDRED!  One great product.
