The Best Mommy Blogs
77
A Controversial Name
Mommy blogging is not the most accepted term for the genre of blogs that are written by mothers and have become wildly popular. This is probably because of the bad rap they have received (who wants to sit around and read about someone else's kids??) and the jugdements that come in (did her kid really do that? don't they have anything better to do?).
But if you haven't read some of these than you are missing out. You can find connections and support in the most unlikely places - other mommy blogs! Whether they make you feel better about your own bad day or parenting guilt or you find yourself nodding as you read a post because you know exactly what they mean (and you thought you were the only one!), you may even become inspired to start your own.
Still an unbeliever? Here are 3 of the most popular "mommy blogs" out there with the highest following and the best reads.

Dooce.com
The grandmommy of all mommy blogs, Heather Armstrong started her own website way before it was the in thing to do. She has created such a massive following that her website is her full-time job (along with raising her 2 daughters, 2 crazy dogs and a writer). Her husband Jon is also supported and runs the business side of Dooce.com (think ad revenue and appearances).
Not only does Dooce tell it like it is and holds no bars for anyone's feelings (including her only family), her engaging writing is ehanced by her photography skills. You will find in addition to the blog there are 3 more sections:
- Daily Chuck - usually a picture of her dog Chuck who is unbelievably disciplined and will pose with any number of inanimate objects. You will also find pictures of her crazy dog Coco too.
- Daily Style - Dooce has great taste and highlights some of her finds and purchases. She lets you know where you can buy items too (from nail polish to couch cushions and more). She's not just pushing big retailers for revenue either, lots of indie finds and Etsy shops are featured.
- Daily Photo - not much to elaborate on here, as mentioned above Dooce takes great photos and shows them off in this section.
Here's a good post to get yourself acquainted with Heather and her site:

Girl's Gone Child
This site has archives going back to 2005 and chronicles Rebecca Woolf's journey into motherhood (she is now a mommy of 2: Archer and Fable). Girl's Gone Child is a tell it like it is blog that invites conversation and community.
Rebecca is funky, has got style and is pretty to boot. You might wish she lived closer so you can hang out. She has great taste in music too, her daughter Fable is 10 months old and she creates a video tribute to her daughter as each month passes. The soundtrack for these vignettes are poignant and makes you want them for your own listening pleasure.

Motherhood Uncensored
A common theme with all mommy blogs is that they hold no bars when it comes to saying what's on their minds. Truth be told they say (or write) what is on a lot of mom's minds but they feel it is taboo to say it so don't. Kristen Chase is another mommy blogger that has accumulated a huge following for her sass and posts about motherhood and beyond.
Motherhood Uncensored in Kristen's own words:
Not knowing any new mothers in my town and feeling fairly misplaced, I decided to start a blog with the hopes of connecting with other moms -- moms who didn't think motherhood was all peachy keen and who cried more than they laughed. I was out to bust myths, open eyes, and bring to the light the TRUE realities of motherhood (harsh, joyous, and funny) and marriage.
