The REALLY Concise LIST OF STONE TIPS

·         Clear abrasive dirt, sand and like-particles from the floor surface once-daily. To reduce mud, dirt and sand on your floor, use entrance rugs at your entrance areas. Use only dust mops or gentle-bristle brooms. The # 1 stone floor enemy is abrasion.

·         If you use a vacuum cleaner, do NOT use one with a beater bar. Use suction-only.

·         Stone floors tend to be slick. Use rubber furniture leg covers (small, stickable rubber disks for the bottom of chair and table legs) and also make absolutely sure any area rugs are rubber-backed. Not doing so can cause serious falls and injury.

·         It doesn’t hurt to mop the floor with some regularity and it is only necessary for the mop to be slightly damp. It should not be sopping wet.

·         Make sure, particularly in the kitchen, to wipe up spills as soon as they happen. Wipe up twice as fast if the spill is anything acidic such as orange, tomato, lemon juice, etc. These substances will disrupt you floor finish within a very short time after exposure.

·         When cleaning, use a bio-friendly, non-toxic neutral pH cleaning solution. Professional pH neutral cleaners or pure soaps will work – make sure the soap is pH neutral. Rinse with clean, clear and change your rinsing water often for the brightest shine.

·         Basic rule of thumb – don’t use any cleaning product from the grocery store on your stone. That includes scrubbing bubbles, scrubbie pads, scrubbie brushes and everything else scrubbie-dubbie. A soft, natural material rag or non-abrasive sponge is best.

·         You can use a slight bleaching solution to eradicate algae from outdoor patio areas, pool decks or Jacuzzi areas. Make absolutely sure to rinse the areas well.
