Little Adults

A kid's favorite way to play is to immitate the activitiers of the adults around them. Play kitchens, play houses, play tools, play doctor kits - the toy stores have it all.

Being able to drive like mom and dad is a dream come true for little ones. The kids with the ride on battery powered cars are the envy of the block with everyone clamouring to take a spin. But regular cars are becoming old news - the abundance of choices go much further than a pink Barbie jeep or a blue Hot Wheels car.

This Hub highlights a few of the unique ride ons available that are sure to impress.

For the Budding Golf Pro

If dad, an uncle or grandpa is an expert golfer (or even just likes to think he is) this Children's Electric Golf cart might be the gift to get your son or daughter. Take them with you on the course and they can be your personal caddy for the day or set-up a golf course in the back yard for them to work their way through.

As with most ride on toys, when the accelerator is no longer pressed the golf cart will come to a stop. The battery charge will last for one hour at a speed of 2 1/2 mph (when carrying a child 65 lbs or less). Backward and forward motion are available and the golf cart beeps to let everyone know to watch out when the young driver is backing up.

Also included at the $299.99 price point is a kids golf bag, 2 plastic clubs, 3 golf balls, water bottle and wire basket to hold the golf bag. There is a working horn too (requires 2 AA batteries).

This model is available via Hammacher Schlemmer here.

Wanting to Ride the Schoolbus

It may wear off quickly once your child starts school but be assured that a big yellow school bus has a lot of appeal to toddlers and preschoolers. Fisher Price has a battery operated ride on available that is sized and geared towards toddlers.

The smaller size is perfect for 12-36 month olds and they can play special music as they drive along. Be sure they practice safety and put out their stop sign before picking up or dropping off any children! You can view additional pictures and use the interactive 360 degree viewing tool on the Fisher Price website.

The schoolbus retails for approximately $120 USD and comes with a rechargeable 6-volt battery. Top speed of the school bus is 2 mph - fast enough for your child to be thrilled at the speed but slow enough so you can easily keep pace.

Vehicle is approx. 30" L x 18" W x 17½" H.

For the Boys

What is better than an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and dinosaurs for little boys? How about a Fisher Price Monster Traction A.T. Rex?

The Power Wheels name you can trust for battery-operated ride ons and the excitement of riding a carnivorous dinosaur all rolled into one. The T-Rex mouth opens and closes with a realistic "Roar" that the driver can control. Scare your mom or other kids with the light-up eyes.

The included 12-volt battery allows the A.T. Rex to reach speeds up to 5 mph (there is a special feature that allows you to limit the speed to a maxium of 2.5 mph). The monster traction tires makes it easy to go on both smooth and rough terrain - nothing can stop your little dinosaur rider.

The approximate retail price is $316.00 USD. You can view more pictures and a video on the transformation from tame ATV to the monstrous A.T. Rex here.

For the Girls

Okay this isn't only for girls but is a bit tamer than some of the other options available. The vespa is made by Peg Perego. Not only does it come with a realistic and functional back storage comparment it has blinking lights and a engines noises you would expect from the real thing.

The age range for the Vespa is 3-7 years old - for the younger ones training wheels are included and can be removed as confidence and balance improves. Automatic breaking and two speeds (2 and 4 mph) are some of the technical features included.

And like the real Vespa this one is made in Italy and comes with the promise of high-quality as with all Peg Perego products. View the website here for more details. Approximate retail price is $300 USD.

I purchased a Hummer from the www.mini-rides.com a month ago and it's great my son loves it. It's very powerful and the real shifter is great. The rubber band on the tires really work they give a very traction. I'm getting a ATV from those guys for Chrismas, probably the Typhoon ATV.
