What do you think about show like The Biggest Loser
I don’t know, but I have a problem with shows like “The Biggest Loser”
When you make weight loss a competition, I think it’s so unfair. Heavy people have such a variety of fitness levels, metabolism levels, biological, and physiological, and psychological baggage and levels that to compare one individual with another and then make a game show out of it is cruel television. And yet people watch this stuff, at the moment I can barely walk a block with out needing to sit down and rest, and having some thin couch yell at me to encourage me, I don’t think would ever work for me. What I want to see, is those coaches to wear a 300lbs fat suit and then see how much they can do, and their in perfect shape, I’m not.
In some aspect it shows that heavy individuals have emotions and feelings, that they try, and often succeed, but it’s theater, and sometimes I think it’s just a freak show.
Shows like the Brookhaven Obesity Clinic, also bother me, because it seems like they don’t do enough to encourage there patients.
And it’s beyond my comprehension why these places don’t use water more in the assistance with weight loss. I know from my own experience, that water aerobics is a perfect beginning exercise program, the problem is finding a pool that I can get in and out of, and a place you don’t feel so self conscious about going to, but the water buoyancy helps with joint strain, and the water resistance helps with muscle development. I once saw a television program were they showed an over-weight dog that was exercising on a tread mill that was submerged in water, I think it was in Japan some where, and I thought it was one of the most brilliant ideas, and wondered why they don’t have something like that in obesity clinics.
Being out of work, and having next to no money, trying to live on something like 3 to 5 dollars a day, it’s going to be hard for me to eat healthy, see a doctor, even weigh my progress, But I do endeavor to begin this journey, I solicit ideas, and help, encouragement and suggestions. I challenge, not as competition, but as companions, to walk with me along this path of change and transformation, To become better than we are but not who we are. For we are already strong, we are already good, we are already worthy, to be liked and to be loved.
Peace
