The Biggest Mistakes People Make With Fat Loss Workouts
58If you're currently trying to lose weight, chances are you given some good thought to the workout program you're choosing to use.
While it certainly is possible to lose weight without working out at all, it's going to be a lot harder without that additional calorie burn in there. Also, keep in mind that the stress of exercise on the body, as long as it's within limits, will help to promote the maintenance of lean body tissues, which then means you will have a higher metabolic rate.
When people go on a very strict diet and couple that with very little exercise, there is a much higher chance that they'll start to lose muscle tissue, which then slows down the metabolism. This then makes it much harder to maintain the weight loss after you're done the diet, and isn't a very good cycle at all.
So, choosing to workout during a fat loss diet is definitely going to be to your benefit.
Now, that said, there are some things you need to keep in mind when doing so. Here are the common mistakes people make with fat loss workouts.
Too Much Volume
Many individuals will go into the gym and hammer away on the equipment for a good ninety minutes to two hours thinking this will help them burn more calories and hence lose fat faster.
Unfortunately it doesn't work that way.
While exercise certainly will help you maintain your lean muscle mass, too much exercise does the opposite.
When taking in fewer calories, you really need to watch the total volume you're performing to ensure it's not going to put your body in jeopardy of burning away too much muscle.
Too Much Focus On Cardio
Next up, the second mistake that many people make with regards to their fat loss workouts is focusing too heavily on cardio training.
The common thought is that this is what literally burns the fat away, so the more the better.
Again, this is incorrect. The thing with cardio is that it will help burn calories, but it doesn't really reshape the body.
To do that, you need weight training.
Plus, weight training will boost your metabolism more in the long run, thus it's still going to be most effective for burning off calories.
Not Lifting Heavy
The third error that people make with their weight loss workouts is not lifting heavy enough weight.
They often think that in order to cut back on the intensity (since fewer calories are available for fuel), they will lift lightly but keep the total reps and sets high.
Wrong again.
It is much better to continue to lift with a good intensity and reduce back on the total reps and sets you do, than vice versa.
This is what will do a much better job at maintaining that lean body mass and get the results you're looking for.
So, be sure you are not making any of these critical errors. If you are, it's time to change that.

Awsome, trust me, it's definitely the better way to go. High reps really isn't optimal for almost any goal (apart from maybe endurance athletes). You'll lost fat much faster by doing heavy lifting, some cardio, and getting on a really good diet. Diet is what's key.

Thanks for the advice Shannon. I am just starting a weight loss program to shed a few lbs before x mas and have started working out in the gym. I fell for the more reps with light weights to loose fat, but after reading your post I will raise the bar and lift some decent weight with more resistance, so thank you again.
