Pretty little bee in the pumpkin flower.

They say our bees are disappearing but no one seems to have the answer to what's happening to the bee. They call it Colony Collapse Disorder.

Haagan Dazs says with bee population disappearing will result in fewer flavors and higher prices.

Oh my, we can't let that happen!

Really when I take pictures of the bees in our yard I don't know if I'm taking a picture of a honey bee or bumble bee. We do have very big bumble bees those I know but others forget it.

CAN YOU FIND THE BEE?
CAN YOU FIND THE BEE?

Honeybees are attracted to brightly colored, sweet-smelling flowers. They love the flower garden and love the vegetable flowers.

Flowers will disappear as bees disappear, so do many naturally grown fruits and vegetables. As many as 90 major crops.

I hope the problem is found soon. We don't kill bees in fact we don't even kill hornets and they can be nasty little things. The hive you see is a hornets hive hanging on the side of our house. It no longer has hornets they were here last year but I thought it was pretty. I didn't want it taken down.

GRAPES

Grape growers say that bees ruin the grapes. We have only two grape vines and I have never noticed any problem with bees.

As you can read in the link above bees are a pest in vine yards. Growers want to use an insecticide to get rid of them. Some grape growers claim their feeding can cause damage to the grapes. Others say it's the yellow jacket that causes the most trouble. I hate to see insecticide used but what can anyone do. Bees do not pollinate grapes which I would have thought they did. I'm sure that birds also give grape growers trouble. The zucchini below is from our garden and it does need bees. They are necessary for squash pollination.

This Little Hummingbird also love the flowers in our yard along with the other birds.

I saw a programme on Sky the other week about the bees vanishing, and it is very worrying. In certain parts of the world they now have to pollinate all of their crops by hand as they accidentaly wiped out the bees. I have been considering keeping bees at some point myself, as here in Guernsey in the Channel Islands we have an abundance of wildflowers and ideal habitat, plus I could put the hives on the land where my Husband and I have our coarse fishing lake. Quite expensive to set up though I am told.

Great hub. My mom and dad have had bee hives on the back of there acerage all summer. Honey bees are so much smaller than bumble bees. They don't bother anyone and have helped my mother's garden out. Plus, free honey this winter. It's really sad what we have done to our world. Thanks for posting this and nice pictures from your yard.

ADB thanks for posting comment. Since we have left the hornets nest hanging from our house we have not had any hornets on our deck this year. Someone said they won't come as long as the old nest is hanging there.

Hey there! Great info and an important hub as well. My hubby and I are beekeepers in Ohio. CCD is terrible and it effects everything.

The bee in the first pic is a bumble. They are great pollinators as well. The second pic is of some kind of wasp or carpenter bee. The only good pollinators are honey and bumble bees. All other insects and wasps are only out for number one. They may pollinate on "accident", but basically they just steal and eat.

I have never heard of the keeping the hornet's nest up thing. But I will tell you this...I would take it down! Old Hornet's nests are notorious for providing a new home for wasps. Wasps suck and I hate them!!! :) Saying this after being stung by them several times.lol

Keep the wonderful articles coming!

PS: AWESOME pics!

Thanks for comments StonebridgeFarm. I know some bees I don't like I'm allergic to the little what we call sweat bees. One sting from them and I look like a monster. Even though none of us like Hornets and Wasp they do get rid of pest insects. In the city of Toronto they leave all wasp and hornet nest in trees and do not remove them unless they are a danger to people.

Glad you liked my pictures.
