Callaway Golf Trivia

  1.   Callaway was the first, in 1986, to employ computer moderated milling machines, which helped guarentee the flatness of putter surfaces.
  2.   They had the number one driver in 95 on the PGA, LPGA, Senior PGA,  and other renowned tours.  Callaway Golf rose to become number one in  golf manufacturing  sales of woods and irons.
  3. Callaway became the worlds biggest manufacturer of golf clubs.
  4. 2007 Callaway lists 17 products on the Golf Digest Hot List.

Ely Callaway Founder

The Callaway Golf club is the brain-child of  Ely Callaway.

Ely Callaway, using foresight,  bought half of Hickory Stick USA and rechristened it Callaway Hickory Stick USA. Then  he decided to take on board  the best people to further his dream for Callaway Golf. People like   Richard C. Helmstetter who was to be the Chief Club Designer  who is responsible for the brand's unique and successful design. The designs for Callaway golf club-- revolutionary and innovative--  is the reason why the Callaway golf club is such a great innovation.

Ely Callaway then renamed his company into Callaway Golf and   repositioned his company to a sleepy seaside town north of San Diego, called Carlsbad.

Big Bertha

The only 'woman' with a stainless steel head, Big Bertha  has a larger and more forgiving driving head than any prior design.

So called, this big-momma's name was  derived from a German cannon back in WWI which was nortorious for its being able to hit targets at a great distance.  Subsequently, once she was christened, this driver became a house hold name (in golf households anyway)  because it drove millions of sales for the company.

She is quite a lady, if you know how to use her.

Types of Club

Today there are 6 types of the Callaway Golf club.

  • First are the two drivers: the Big Bertha Fusion FT4 as well as  Big Bertha Titanium 454.
  • The next type of Callaway golf club are the Fairway Woods.
  • Fairway Woods themselves in turn have 3 types of clubs which are:
  •  Big Bertha Fusion Fairway Woods, Big Bertha Titanium Fairway Woods, and the Big Bertha Fairway Woods.
  • The next division of the Callaway golf club is a sort of hybrid which is specifically for distance. The model for this type of Callaway golf club is called Big Bertha Heavenwood Hybrids.
  • The next category is the irons which are divided into five types of models:
  •  Big Bertha, the Big Bertha Fusion, the X-Tour, the X-18, and finally the X-18 Pro.
  • Yet another division of the Callaway golf club are  the wedges:  Forged+ Wedges.
  • The final class for Callaway golf club are the smaller, more precise club, the Putters.   Putters have 2 types: Callaway golf I-Trax Putter and tour Blue.

All above models are made with a combination of  science, lab research, and real-world golf course practise.

From Tiger to  Nicklaus, most every golfer has tried a Callway during their drive-2-putt careers--why don't you be the next?

Phil Michelson on the New Diablo Fairway Wood

"I've been using this Diablo Fairway Wood..this is the best fairway wood I've ever hit. It goes so similar to the driver in that It gets up in the air and flies straight. The fairway wood you ask alot of. You want it to go long off the tee but you want it to be able to come soft into the greens and be able to shape it with the holes.

It's the most demanding club I believe of the fourteen clubs in your bag and I feel like this Diablo Fairway Wood allows me to do all that. "

Great article. I prefer Taylor Made or Callaway golf clubs myself. Both are solid choices.
