Love gone wrong and heart break has been a popular subject for many songs, both old songs as well as new songs. There are hundreds of sad love songs, but only a few continually make it in top 10 or top 100 lists. These songs are the "saddest of sad" songs. This hub will discuss the composition of a sad love song that makes the songs make us need to grab a box of tissues when we  hear them.

Most of our favorite sad love songs has a story that is full of heart break. Maybe it's the end of a long term relationship,sometimes it is about missing someone, maybe it's about cheating and infidelity. Sometimes sad love songs are about personal tragedy, such as the death of someone they love. All of these sad stories are the perfect background for some sad love song lyrics.

A sad love song must be sung with emotion to be truly heart pulling. It doesn't matter how sad the love story is, there is no emotion, it will not portray the sadness of the situation.

Imagine the song "All By Myself" by Celine Dion being sung in a monotone voice. It would not be quite the same.

While the lyrics and the emotion of the singer can make a sad love song, the music also plays an important role. Sad love songs are usually slower in tempo and may have instruments such as piano, violin, and others which are excellent in setting a sad mood as a background to go with the sad love story and the emotion of the vocalist.

Everyone has different opinions on what the best sad love songs are, and of course it will depend on what type of music you listen to. If you like country music, for example, you may not really like an alternative sad love song.

While my list of sad love songs includes all of my favorite sad love songs, it does not mean that everyone will love all of them. (Though I'm sure there's a little of something for everybody!) There are new songs that come out everyday, and often songs I don't know about, so it's hard to have an ultimate list of sad love songs out there. But you're sure to find one that is perfect for how you feel. And if you can't find one you like, you can always write your own!
