There is no doubt that the metamorphosis of the former Palestine into the state of Israel was a massive injustice to the resident Muslim population of over six decades ago. But that is all ancient history now and it makes no more sense to keep revisiting that part of long-ago history than it does any other. Shall we next argue for the rightful secession of the Southern states, the right of Mongolia to its former Khan Empire lands, or turn over most of Europe to Roman control? In fact, every North American currently stands on soil that was previously British, French, Spanish or Dutch, and all of it was First Nations aboriginal land before that. Shall we turn over the continent entirely to its former and quite rightful owners?

There is an argument for that policy, but it is myopic and pointless. We cannot resolve the events of history. All we can do is deal with what presents itself today, and we have a situation which currently presents itself that the world critically needs to have resolved on a long term basis starting immediately: The first step which has to be taken is to formalize the precise boundaries of Israel and consider them inviolable.

The various political elements within the Jewish state must end their call for Eretz Yisrael Ha-Shlema, the region which was promised by the Hebrew God to the descendants of Abraham through his son Isaac. Medinat Yisrael or current Israel simply has to suffice.

The construction, demolition and reconstruction of disputed Israeli border territories must end. Israelis must know that they have permanent right to their land. Do American homeowners in the Rio Grande Valley have to constantly tear down their homes as disputes flare up over what constitutes historical Mexico? The United States Government would not stand for such absurdity, and neither should Israel.

Jerusalem has to become a city under international administration: Trieste is all that needs to be said.

American troops have to be removed from Afghanistan and Iran, as a military without a mandate and without the will to truly wage war is not a military force at all, but just a bunch of sitting ducks waiting to be blown up. Afghanistan and Iran are not winnable situations and it has been acknowledged since the times of Sun Tzu that a military force should never engage in battles that cannot be won.

The American military has to be moved to only one, clear, straightforward, and implementable theatre of action: Protecting Israel's borders. The gloves have to come off. If there is a placement in the West Bank or the Gaza Strip which is lobbing missiles into Israel, it will be destroyed in an American air raid, and if there is a nuclear facility which presents a threat to Israel anywhere in the Arab world it will be immediately destroyed with overwhelming force: End of conversation. Hamas is a terrorist group and it must be shown no more consideration than Al Qaeda. Both Arab and Israeli sides must understand that Israel is not just an abstract concept to be discussed and negotiated, but a permanent, imperishable, and indestructible integral part of the region.

An attack on Israel must be considered as an attack on Alaska, Florida, or any other part of the United States: the perpetrators must understand that the retribution will be swift, merciless and total.

After 9/11, it seemed as if we had entered an age of terrorism in the homeland, but countless embryonic terrorist cells have been dismantled and thus the American nation has been safe for almost a decade. The same security must be extended by American forces onto Israel, to ensure that Israelis can go about their lives free from fears of bombs and carnage.

This plan calls for both Arab and Israeli sides to back off from long-held policies, but it is the only feasible way out of the morass which has stretched over six decades. Both Jews and Arabs must understand that this plan will ensure a lasting peace where they can all benefit, and end the prolonged generations-long bloody conflict which has stunted the aspirations of every single individual in the region, regardless of nationality or religion.
