The Cook is on Strike
64What Happens Next?
Help the cook is on strike! How do you feed two people if you absolutely can't cook but have a toaster oven and a microwave. Oh no, it's worse the cook came out of the hospital and needs bedrest for a few weeks. How do you feed this picky eater?
Easy Recipes
Breakfast
Bran is both the dieter's and the constipated person best friend. Irish Oatmeal breakfast might be too messy for a noncook to make.
Hot Cereal
3/4 cup of Raisen bran flake cereal
3/4 cup of milk
Shake raisen bran flakes in a microwave safe mug add milk and microvawe for 1 minute. This serves one so make another for yourself.
Easy Lunch for Two
Today for lunch we are having grilled cheese and "tomato soup". If you choose to just use cream cheese and Swiss cheese you will have the sensation of Brie cheese without having to peel or eat the creepy Brie "crust".
Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
Four slices of bread
Cream cheese
4 slices of Swiss cheese
2 slices of Colby Jack cheese
If you have frozen sliced bread you can just toss it in the toaster and set on toast setting 3.5 (my toaster has the highest toast level at number 8 don't go there). Watch it carefully if it starts to burn turn off and disconnect the toaster. Now the toaster is sweaty so turn it off and open the door using an pot holder. Wait about two minutes then use tongs to grab the toast.
Spread cream cheese on the four slices of toast. Add Swiss cheese to each slice. Fold and cut the Colby cheese in half and arrange on 4 slices of toast. Arrange four slices of bread on the rack and toast on setting 3 and watch it carefully.
Tomato Soup for Two
This is delicious and easy to prepare.
1 can of zuccini in tomato sauce
2 Tablespoons of butter
Pour zuccini in a microwave safe bowl or glass. Microwave for 1 minute. Add butter. Microwave for about 30 seconds. Wait one minute. If it didn't melt microwave for 40 seconds. Wait one minute. Wipe the sweat off the microwave walls and using a potholder pluck out the zuccini mixture. Stir it.
Place half of the zuccini mixture in a 6 ounce mug. You get to eat out of the larger bowl.
Serve lunch with a smile or try to look exhausted.
Supper for Two
Instant Vegetable Soup
1 bag of frozen vegetables that can be microwaved in its own bag
1 can of chicken broth
2 ounces of Cheddar cheese
Microwave the vegetables according to the instructions. Wait one minute. Microwave 3 minutes for tenderness. Pour chicken broth in a microwave safe bowl or glass for about 1 minute. Wait one minute. Pour bag of vegetables into the chicken broth. Grate or cube the Cheddar cheese. Toss cheese on the soup and microwave for about 40 seconds. Wait one minute. If the cheese didn't melt microwave for 40 seconds. Wait one minute. Stir and serve. Pour half of the soup in a large mug about 10 ounces.
Optional: you might serve soup with toast and butter.
Dessert
Let's go make choclate ganache.
I like to use chocolate that I could eat just by itself like a bar dark Cadbury chocolate. If you use chocolate that has sugar then you don't had to add sugar later and fight the granules. You can find can crema which is heavy cream in the Mexican section of the grocery store. Can crema is versatile you can add to tortellini as cream sauce but you can't whip it.
Ganache
Four chunks or 2.5 ounces of your favorite chocolate.
One (7.6 ounce) can of Nestle brand Media Crema Table cream
Melt chocolate in a microwave safe bowl. Stir the chocolate. Add can crema. There you just made choclate ganache.
Shopping Tips
Buy what you like to eat. To be fair I did buy a few boxes of pizza, eggrolls and frozen meals. Buy a variety of the things you like. Surpise your cook with bright red strawberries or luxurious raspberries for dessert. Add some sugar to your berries.
When I baked half a Red Barron pizza I baked it at 350 degrees instead of 450 degrees at the recommend amount of time. It seems that you need less heat in a toaster oven than a regular oven.
Other good desserts include yogurt. Yoplait makes delicious yogurts with dessert theme like strawberry cheesecake and banana cream pie.

I really need these recipe ideas during the Hublove contest. The cook isn't officially on strike, but cooked meals are becoming scarce.
Great Hub. We all need a break sometime.
