Executions of Child Criminals

Today’s society has provided protection rights and acts for our children. This is to address situations and issues that arise due to poverty, violence, lack of education and for the prevention of harm and exploitation of our children and protection of their human rights.

A majority of nations are aware that a child does not have the full ability of understanding their behavior and therefore are not always aware of the consequences for their actions. It is this particular child that is vulnerable to society.

Parents are encouraged to spend time with their children to develop close bonds that will last a lifetime. During this time a parent has the opportunity to teach their child about skills, life, society, rules, laws and religion. It is these special moments that can stay with a child.

The absence for the opportunity to learn about the world or society a child lives within will leave this child with a lack of knowledge and poorly informed decision making skills. This state of vulnerability leaves a child open for punishment to their own society which may have a harsh and unforgiving regime.

Exploiting and punishing a child for crimes committed without their full understanding of criminal acts can be viewed as unfair victimization of a vulnerable person.

It is preferable that a measure of forgiveness accompany punishment for child criminals. This gives the child the opportunity to learn from their poor decisions and actions and allowance to make changes for their future behaviors.

Canada’s Young Offenders Act provides a youth with certain rights and protections. He or she is allowed access to a lawyer and dependent upon the degree of the crime will be given a punishment (and they are set down for all levels of crimes) at the discretion of the presiding Judge. First time offenders may be given community service. It is to give them the opportunity to change their behaviors and prevent venturing into or idealizing the career criminal.

One should always try to give some reasonable benefit of the doubt before deciding to give up on a child or assuming that they are acting poorly on purpose. Such thoughts of children shows unrealistic expectations and undue pressure for the child with a immature mind. We have to learn to recognize that a child is able to change and leaders of authority should try to use such situations as a step towards positive growth for both child and society.

I am one for letting our children grow and teach them about the world around them while simultaneously have respect and care for others less fortunate than themselves.

You are exactly right. Children are not aware of the consequences to their actions as most adults SHOULD be aware of. It is a shame that so many youths fall in between the cracks of the system and become institutionalized. There needs to be alot more done to help the youth of the world.....GOOD HUB

Great hub - I agree - it's sad when children are labelled and put away. That's not to say a child shouldn't be corrected - however, the kind of sentences meted out are hardly conducive to changing him.

We are a more forgiving people and children do push their limits but they eventually do learn and mend their ways. I'm glad you enjoyed this Hub. :)
