The Current Economic Crisis - A Great Opportunity for Baby Boomers?

The current economic crisis has placed many baby boomers at a crossroad.

Some have lost their jobs. Others are feeling job insecurity as their companies face an unstable financial future. Many simply realize that they don’t like their job.

They don’t like someone (their boss) telling them what to do everyday. They don’t like their commute to work. They don’t like having only a few days of vacation each year.

They don’t like the “end of the world” reaction from the boss when they ask off for a couple of hours to attend a child’s play or some other school activity. They want more control over their lives.

So many baby boomers have been hit hard in the current economic crisis. Retirement savings have been greatly reduced. The stock market crash and the decline in housing prices have taken a toll.

I have read many articles on how the economic downturn has decimated the baby boomer generation. Yes, many have been hurt. But I think most will recover strongly.

Here’s my take on the people who make up the baby boomer generation. I feel I can express my opinion because I am slightly older than this generation.

Some Will Start a Home Internet Marketing Business

Many baby boomers are well educated. They are not afraid of hard work. In fact, they are probably better employees and harder workers than people from other generations.

They are aggressive and creative. Many have had successful careers. Here’s something else that makes them stand out above the rest. They are accustomed to giving – giving to help others.

Some people in the baby boomer generation, both employed and unemployed, will find other jobs that are more satisfying. Others are willing to take an even bigger risk and completely change their vocation. They start their own work from home internet marketing business. What does this accomplish and how do they start?

First of all, baby boomers have much to give. The current economic crisis is not the first one they have lived through. They possess so much wisdom that can help younger people get through the present economic downturn.

They have the advantage of life experience. You may have heard Erica Combs speak. She is the wife of Jeffrey Combs, a famous entrepreneur, motivational speaker, and coach. I heard a presentation she gave several months ago.

Erica said something that has really stuck with me. I think it’s a powerful statement.
I can only paraphrase what I heard her say. She said that too many people carry around negative baggage that prevents them from living happy and fulfilled lives.

And Here is What Erica Said That I Thought was So Powerful

She said that the past is nothing more than what has brought us to our present situation where we can write a beautiful story from this day forward.

I hope that what Erica said and the way I have written it makes some sense to you. She is saying to not worry about the past such as a job lay-off or the sense of job insecurity. The past has provided us with the experiences, the ups and downs, which enable us to live the rest of our lives in a powerful way.

This is the way I see many baby boomers at this point in the current economic crisis. They can draw upon their life experience and use their past to live a powerful life from this point forward.

Starting their own work from home business allows them to help other people. It provides unlimited income potential. It gives them the freedom to work on their own and get control of their lives.

It gives them the opportunity to discover and fulfill their true life purpose. What a blessing!

Yes, there is a learning curve in starting a home internet marketing business. But by obtaining the best internet marketing training, this can be overcome. It will require a strong work ethic, determination, and perseverance. But the baby boomer generation has these qualities.

You are right ~ the past has made all of us what we are today. The ability to learn from the past and shape the future is innate in everyone. People just need to tap into this skill and open both their eyes and heart.

Your paraphrase of what Erica said is so true;"that the past is nothing more than what has brought us to our present situation where we can write a beautiful story from this day forward."

Moving forward to the key and I know that most all baby boomers are people that know how to move forward in a big way. We are a powerful generation that has redefined the workplace many times over and will continue to do so.

Bringing our knowledge and experience online will enhance generations to come and in turn will enhance our lives too.

Continuing to work doesn't have to be a bad thing, especially if it is what we know and love and can do it from anywhere in the world.

Past experiences shape what we are today and how we view the future. The Baby Boomer generation has always been a driving force socially and financially. The current financial crisis may seem like a "pothole" compared to previous "bumps in the road", but our momentum and determination will take us into the future ready for whatever happens. Thanks for an interesting article Scott.

The future is now and as our economy transitions into the next phase growth ie. a technological based economy it's good to baby boomers transitioning with it.

They didn't call you guys the greatest generation for nothing, everything must change at some point or another.

I read Tom Brokaw's book, The Greatest Generation, two years ago and was moved by how WW11 became the vehicle through which many very young men and women became the leaders of the post war era.

Hard, difficult times demanded creative change, taking risks and more.

When baby boomers dig deep within themselves to tap into resources that carve out a new future for themselves; that with risks, mean change, good things can happen globally.

Scott,

Well said, "Our past is in the past and our future is what leads us."

So only through consistent effort of learning and striving the future can be brighter.
