IT support is being outsourced, product design is being outsourced, manufacturing process is being outsourced and many others support services are being outsourced. 

However, we have yet to hear of bodily function like sleeping and eating being outsourced.  Today all of us need to sleep, whether we want to or not, we got to sleep.  It is technically impossible today to outsource sleep away.  But what if the day comes when we can outsource sleeping function?

Let us imagine that we are now living at the time when the people in the developed world outsourced sleep to less developed countries.  They can spend most of their time sleeping and we pay them for sleeping for us.

Imagine 24 hours full of activities. Our children can accelerate in their studies, enroll in university by the time they are 12 years old.   Within wasting time on sleep, children can complete 2 years of formal education (in today’s context) in a year’s time. 

By the time they are 14 years old, they would have gotten the first degree.   And a doctorate by the time they are 16 years old.   

Our police can work 16 hours a day and still able to spend 8 quality hours with their families.  Of course the governments will not allow criminals and gangsters to outsource their sleep.  It is best that they spend more time sleeping so that we can enjoy a more peaceful world.

We do not need to buy bed, mattress, pillows and bolsters anymore.  We do not even need a bedroom since nobody is going to sleep.  

Only those folks in less developed countries need all that.  So we are going to pay them a reasonable sum to let them buy the best bed, mattress, pillows and bolsters in order to sleep deeply.

We can stay in a smaller house since the bedrooms currently take up most of the space in our house.  It is best that the hotels are converted into studio apartments with just a living room and kitchen for individuals or small families.

We do not need to book hotel room when we go holiday or business trip.  Nobody is going to sleep anymore.  We can spend all our time sight-seeing, shopping, watching movie or play slot in casino whole day!

The shopping centers, cinemas and all other shops will have to stay open 24 hours a day.  The streets will be lighted throughout the nights.  Public transports and all other public services will operate 24 hours a day. 

There is no shortage of labor as many of us will enjoy working longer hours and earning more money.  Of course this will mean that the office gossipers will have more time to spread gossips!  Well, we can’t have the best of everything, can we?

In today’s context, when we say we are 30 years old.  We are in fact spending 1/3 of our life sleeping, so that means we are awake for 20 years.  But in the future, when we are able to outsource the function of sleep, we are awake every single minutes of our life.  How nice that will be!
