What is RSS? RSS is an XML format file for syndication that have used by news web or blog. This abbreviation usually designates to several protocol:
- Rich site Summary (RSS 0.91);
- RDF Site Summary (RSS 0.9 and 1.0);
- Really Simple Syndication (RSS 2.0).
RSS feed allowing us to subscribe to certain website that provides RSS feed, usually used by blog or news site which the contents always be regularly updated. To use this feature, you need RSS reader application. This RSS reader could be assumed as your personal mail box that will always retrieve the latest content of your favorite blogs that you have subscribed to. It is different ways for subscribing magazines or newspapers, in subscribing to RSS; you don’t have to pay for some money.
RSS is widely being used by blog’s communities to spread out their latest article/post summaries, sometimes they as well provide the full post of their blog articles. RSS is being used on big part of news site or blog. Feed reader acts as collector, this program checks a site or blog that provides RSS and shows the latest post. This RSS reader could be in computer application software or one online web service.
RSS reader for computer actually have to be installed before used, while online RSS reader doesn’t need installation to be used, we can check RSS wherever you go and whenever you want, as long there is computer and internet connection. It is so easy to subscribe to RSS feed, like my RSS feed on the top right sidebar. RSS feed usually represented by an image like this
Like information above, there are so many RSS versions created now, an even there is one new format called Atom and being used by large sites or blog today, but RSS users don’t have to be confuse, because Atom and RSS could be recognized by any type of RSS reader.
