Styles of Shopping

Everyone has their own shopping style: some of us love it while others hate it. I have to admit that I’m not the biggest fan. My grandma on the other hand—whew! She is addicted to shopping. I’m not kidding, and have suggested that she find a Shopaholics Anonymous Group. Apparently, I drove her crazy when I was a child because I would agree to go shopping with her, then announce I was ready to go back home about two minutes after we got to the mall. Don’t think I never shop. I do, but I have to be in the right mood. Fortunately for my bank account, I’m not in that mood often.

This shopper’s mission is to get in and out of the store as quickly as possible. She knows what she’s going for, so she simply needs to grab it and go. You often see these shoppers walking briskly down aisles, weaving between the other shoppers like it’s a game of Frogger. When you see a G & G shopper, stand down and get out of the way.

The Longing Lingerer

Ah yes, the shopper who loves to shop, but can’t afford to indulge. You will often see this shopper linger in front of a coveted scarf or pair of shoes. This shopper will gently touch the product she longs for. She will close her eyes and dream about taking the item home. She will let out a deep sigh when she finally has to move on with only her longing to take with her.

The Picky Purchaser

The PP shopper only wants the perfect item. This shopper will not settle and nothing will “do.” You can often spot this particular style of shopper by the harried, panic-stricken salespeople running around her. She will not leave until she has exactly what she wants and isn’t afraid to inform everyone of their mistakes in her loud, lordly tone.

The Pause & Ponder Shopper

This shopper could spend three hours in a gas station convenience store, pausing and pondering over every single item in the place. Everything must be thoroughly examined before this shopper will even consider narrowing down the purchase options. Once the shopper has picked out a few selections, she must then compare the prices until she finds the perfect deal. Use caution when agreeing to shop with this kind of shopper because it is nearly impossible to tear her away from her pondering.

The Horrible Hoarder

This horrible shopper has an unusual shopping style. She plans her attack ahead of time, and then elbows everyone who stands in her way. This shopper will stop at nothing to get to the best deals first. She will fill her arms, basket, and cart with as many of the items as she can carry, leaving chicken scraps for the rest of the shoppers. Like the Grab & Go Shopper, use caution when you see this kind of shopper.

The VIP Platinum Shopper

This shopper carries a tiny dog around in her purse: two accessories in one. She wears ridiculously high, thin heels. Her hair and nails are immaculate. This shopper’s style doesn’t discriminate—if she likes something, she buys it in every color. The salespeople know her so well, they don’t even ask how she’s paying today: it is automatically charged to her father’s account. Don’t bother worrying about the VIP shopper because she won’t even notice you exist.
