An acting style is the method of which a performance is carried out or the method an actor uses to portray his character in a production. It can present many ideas. There is period acting which is a role that take place in a different era, place or ways of life. There is also stylized acting which encompasses methods such as the particular styles used Restoration comedies or English drawing room comedies. Then again an actor may prefer to use or be a part of verse acting or classical acting, or even take a liking to the early "declaiming" acting. Contemporary acting which is the style we see today in contemporary comedy and dramas where actors act "in character" and interact with each other honestly in pretended circumstances.

Acting techniques or styles are the different technical skills, approaches, and techniques which permit the actor to do his job. It includes the means to continue to do that over and over through rehearsals and some times up to eight performances per week, or through all the takes while filming. These styles may include training, the ability to get into and convey emotions. It also helps to focus, concentrate, the technical skills, and much, much more.

The best way to achieve these style and techniques is through years of study and experiences, which is contrary to what the masses seem to think today. Most great actors these days go to college for their BA or BFA in theatre and many then continue to earn an MFA in acting, film or other fields of entertainment. Some of them study at conservatories or acting schools rather than customary universities. Nevertheless, all actors continue to study acting, voice, dance or movement throughout their careers.

As with any art and craft, skill levels increase as we learn and as we obtain different experiences through classroom work, the audition process, performances and listening to our directors.
