The Donwfall And Death Of A Spam King
62The Consequences Of Unethical Business Practices
I write these blog posts with, hopefully, a humorous perspective on the whole Mogul, Tycoon, and Magnate phenomenon.
I do this to shine a little satirical light on a fascinating topic, and some compelling personalities, while also hoping that you learn a little something more about business in the process.
My motto really is,
Business .. It Just Ain't That Damned Serious!
But every now and then, I get a reminder of how a business downfall can lead to a tragic end.
Today is one of those times.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Edward Davidson, Founder of Power Promoters.
You might not know the name ... or the company.
But I can guarantee that you sure some of his work.
Maybe it was an irritating e-mail touting some cheap stock.
Or maybe it was an e-mail offering up some perfume.
Or maybe it was an e-mail promoting an online correspondence degree.
The bottom line is ... it was some damned e-mail that hawked some nonsense that you had no interest in.
Well that was the work of Edward Davidson, or someone just like him.
These people mysteriously obtain your e-mail address and send you constant e-mail streams offering up mostly useless junk.
Sort of like I do in this blog sometimes. But at least the blog doesn't show up, unwanted, in your inbox!
Spam King Edward Davidson used his company, Power Promoters, to deliver these e-mails on behalf of the companies hawking those products.

You Must Pay For Your Actions!
Davidson was convicted in April 2008 of spam-related charges, and sentenced to 21 months in prison.
He was also ordered to pay over $700,000 to the IRS.
He was serving that prison sentence when, on July 21, 2008, he simply walked away from his minimum-security chateau and disappeared.
Police couldn't find the Spam King, until that is, gunshots were reported near a Denver-area home on July 24, 2008.
He was found dead in a vehicle, apparently killed by self-inflicted gunshots.
The real tragedy is that Davidson didn't die alone. Also found dead were his wife and 3 year old daughter. So investigating authorities are saying, at this point, it appears to be a murder-suicide.
There's a lot more to come on this issue as all of the facts come to light.
But here's the bottom line for me.
Unbridled acts of unethical and illegal business practices sometimes lead to the most tragic of consequences ... the loss of innocent lives.
So, as you have your adventures in the great land of business, encountering all sorts of creatures - thieves and angels alike, traversing the light and dark of business, needing to make all sorts of important decisions, please keep in mind my little motto:

Business ... It Just Ain't That Damned Serious!
