Betty Brown
51Asians in America
The articles below are all about the stupid Texas lawmaker, Betty Brown, who said that Asian Americans should change their names so that Americans can pronounce them. She reveals her ignorance in many ways. First, she assumes that all Asians are Chinese. There are other countries in Asia. Has she ever heard of Vietnam for instance? What about Japan, y'know, the country that is clobbering the American auto industry? And what about Korea? Weren't the troops there at some point? Remember those two huge bombs y'all dropped on Japan?
Of course she will not apologize for her stupidity, among other things. Just like Bush Jr., she has the right to be as stupid and ignorant as she pleases. It's a free country. But if we're going to simplify names, let's simplify her last name "Brown" to something Asians can pronounce too. It's common knowledge that some Asians languages do not have separate "l" and "r" sounds. Let's just call her Betty Boo!!!
And one more thing. The Chinese came over to America to build the railway in the U.S. and Canada. Then, there was a head tax imposed on any Chinese person who wanted to immigrate to the United States or Canada. This was not lifted until after World War 2. The Chinese who live in North America have done more than enough to earn their citizenship. So before you think that all Asians are foreigners, read some history books!

While I agree her comments are idiotic and thoughtless at best, you making a generalization about Texans isn't much better. Think before you type
Andy, good point. Unlike Betty, I will actually amend my words.

I agree, what a ridiculous, racist and ignorant statement! I live in Louisiana and many of our names are French and are mispronounced by almost everyone outside of this state. I would take that as an insult. Maybe Betty should do the honorable thing and "educate" herself and "learn" how to pronounce the names!
