President Barack Obama Speaks of the Credit Card Bill of Rights

The Effects of Credit Card Processing on Human Behavior

The effects of human behavior on credit cards can be somewhat difficult without knowing the habits and character traits of the individual. If the individual is thrifty then the credit card processing will be respected and credit card comparison will be made. Credit card process will be honored as an exchange product for prompt repayment. If the individual is carefree and do not give a darn, then the credit card processing is at the mercy of the card holder. The credit card holder may not try to select the best credit card for his needs. Also the credit card holder may accept all of the credit card offers received as solicitations.

The purpose of a credit card is toconveniently buy items of use, unexpected events or pleasure that is to be paid back in monthly increments with a reasonable finance charges. The credit cards are owned by banks that are very interested in how you handle your money before they disburse credit. Credit checks are made with the credit reporting bureaus to see if you are qualified to receive and to use a credit card of which the bank owns. If your credit shows that you pay your bill on time and have not filed bankruptcy and without judgements, then you are issued a credit card of which the bank owns. The banks also check on your dealings with other banks in your industry to see if you are credible.

Once you are issued the card, depending on individual circumstances and the plight of your finances, you either use the card responsibly or irresponsibly. If you do not have a budget before issuance of the credit card, it is best to get a budget. Budgeting helps you to check to see how the credit card is going to fit in with your other liabilities and assets. If the credit card was issued to you unsecured, that means that your banking privilege with the bank and the credit card is in in line with the rest of society. If the credit card is secured, that means that the bank has set a limit on how much you can spend on the card and you should be prudent with the credit privileges.

For the most part, the type of credit card that you receive have a lot to do with your human behavior with the card. If you were issued a Capitol One credit card with a low credit limit, that means that you are at risk and should make a concerted effort to pay your bank credit card on time. These low limit credit cards are not the best cards to have because usually the interest rate is over and aboue reasonable rates because the bank consider you at risk. Your goal should be to build up your credit so that you can get a unsecured credit card with a higher spending limit and lower finance charges or interest rates.

A credit card to a teenager is not a good decision and that is why the Credit Card Bill of Rights issued by President Obama relative to bank reform mandates that a person under the age of 21 is not allowed a credit card. A credit card to a young person who has not yet made a mark in credit history with a good rating, more often than not will be irresponsible with the credit card. They may depend on someone else to pay the card off for them and just spend precariously unmindful of the monthly payments. Some young people may not have any intention of paying the card off as they may be more interested in having fun instead of paying a bill. The human behavior of a young person and a credit card is somewhat predictable and that is why the Credit Card Bill or Rights is so important. The legislature also will crack down on unfair rate hikes of banks and unnecessary transaction fees.

A mature person will handle the credit card responsibly is the most likely scenario. Some older people have a problem handling credit cards also and the banks are aware of who these people are. Normally a credit check is made and if thecredit score fall within a certain range, either the credit card will be issued or declined. More often than not, however, mature people are responsible and tries to pay their credit card bills on time. In the event that the card payment may be late, the effected person should contact the bank and explain the circumstances. Depending on the bank, notations may be made that will either hinder interest rate hikes for late payments or a payment plan can be prepared.

Human behavior effects credit cards moreso than credit cards effect human behavior because the people are the ones who should control their credit card behavior. They should pay their credit cards bills on time and use the credit card wisely. Periodically, the card holder should look at how the credit card has been used to check for purchases and expenses that probably did not have to be charged. By studying the personal behavior, the person should decide to withhold unnecessary purchases again because either it did not make sense , the purchase was entirely useless of could have waited for later.

Use credit cards on large expenses and have a plan on how you are going to pay the credit card off before you make the purchase. You may need the credit card for unexpected events that you have no control over. The credit card should not be used on smaller goods that do not have to be paid off in installment. After looking over your credit card transaction statement, if you find that you made a few purchases that you could have paid with cash, think about applying at your bank for a debit card.

Debit cards are more liquid than credit cards because they do not carry any interest rates. The debit card is the same as a checking account but the money is on the card and when the balance is 0 that means that no more purchases can be made. Debit cards do not bounce and that is a good thing because with each bounce of the old bank checking account, transaction fees were applied. Debit cards can also be purchased independently from the banks at local pharmacies and retail establishments. However, to keep a good relationship with your bank, you should get the debit card from your bank. Debit cards will help you control your spending habits with credit cards by hindering purchases that do not make sense because the money is coming from your own account. If people treat credit cards like the bank money belongs to them, behavior on paying off credit cards would change for the better.

Thanks for the info. These changes to credit card companies were well overdue. Canada has implemented some of those changes as well.

DynamicS, thank you for your comment. I noticed that Canada seems to follow policies of the United States.
