The Eighth Wonder of the World!
64The Palm Jumaira
Located in the Middle East, in the Arabian Gulf, Dubai is considered now as the fastest growing city in the world. The government has constructed many of the world’s iconic structures which we need at least 20 hubs to discuss. Anyhow, we will concentrate on one vehement, mind blowing project that is The Palm which has become a symbol of Dubai’s incredible ambition and growth.
The Palm basically is a man-made archipelago which consists of 16 fronds in a shape of a date palm. The project commenced in 2001 and is still ongoing, and in the next 1-2 years will see the island become one of the world’s premier resorts. With 4,000 villas and apartments and more than 30 hotels including The Atlantis, more than 2,600 apartments along with 80 penthouses, The Palm has attracted buyers from the entire world.
The Palm covers more than 560 hectares of land. It’s more than one and a half times the size of Central Park and almost four times the size of Hyde Park. The amount of material used could create 2 meter high and half a meter wide wall that would circle the globe three times!
Instead of talking and using various superlatives, I listed some pictures which will speak clearly for themselves:

Yes, the pictures tell the story! (and the water looks fabulous!)
Seeing is believing...
Thanks for bringing these informative articles. Very nice photos.
You're welcome Satyam7.
nice...but I wouldn't want to be there if a Random Hurricane hits!
No dear jjrubio, it's weel prtected and thought thru. The calculated all this and they built like a shield in a shape of crescent. this crescent will be a barrier in the face of all the big waves and hurricanes.
interesting....well thats nice!
Oh, woow. amazing!!!
But expensive also...
I don't think it's the eight wonder - but it is definitely the ninth. I will soon make a hub about what many consider the eight - Herod's Temple in Jerusalem, that took them 40 years!!! to build.
I seems the pictures were taken at a time when the project was not yet completed, or at least before anyone moved in. Despite being in one of the hottest countries in the world, it looks somewhat like "Little Boxes" as sung by Pete Seeger
Impressive, but not sure I'd like the one one in and only one road out part of it. Looks too much like the housing developments here. still quite a wonder. Great hub!
dear BriteEdward, maybe you're right about Herod's Temple so let's read it :)
dear Jerilee Wei, thanks for dropping by.
Beautiful! Anyone got a teleporter? Set it to Dubai--I'm packin' my bags!
Love,

Hey GM, you wanna come? Just let me know...
I wonder how these homes will fare as the sea level rises.
I'm afraid I see this more as another arrogant human affront to Nature rather than a wise or useful endeavor.
I'm sorry to interject a negative outlook here but I am only being pragmatic.
There is no fear from waves dear ColdWarBaby, they too their time constructing this. And you're not spreading any negative outlook becz many people opposed these things.
This place is totally awesome!!! :-D

Any idea how much these cost? I heard that the 'World' islands they are building cost around $35 Million just for the island.
Hi ufgcom, they cost much more than that, you can talk billions! But, they didn't think of the cost as much as of the profits after.
cool houses!they're so fab!totally!they rock!
i wonder how much one cost.
The cosr, catherine, starts from 2 million upwards :)
Where are all the people? Why are there no people in the photos? It looks amazing, an engineering achievement of course.
These are relatively old photos jewels. Now, people are actually living there, enjoying all the splendour and luxury. Thanks for commenting.
