The End of The World in 2012 - What Will You Be Doing?
75The End Of The World As We Know It?
The Mayans, Nostradamus, and more importantly, The X-Files have predicted that the world will end on 21st December 2012. If you want real precision in that the hour is 11:11 (it might be am or pm depending on the source). Taking into account timezones that means that in Eastern Australia we'd better start being concerned on December 22, but why quibble about pedantic details?
A lot of people out there (well maybe just a few, but a lot sounds better, doesn't it?) are preparing in advance for The End of Everything...or at least a case of a bad sunburn when the sunspots get bad that day causing a massive solar wind, or was that a volcanic eruption... I can never remember the exact details. Anyway, the average person with their busy life really doesn't have the time to prepare caches of food, and build that mountain retreat just in case. We'll be the ones winging it.
If you are one of those people who decide to take the laissez-faire approach to the end of everything (maybe even time itself) then here are a few suggestions to make the end of the world an event you'll never forget.

1. Relax, You Already Have Enough Food
It's the Holiday Season in a lot of religions. You know what that means. Food, more food and then a little bit more food to go with that food. Let's face it, we'll all be stuffed like turkeys, and know that there are more celebrations to come. Your cupboards and fridges will be stuffed to the gills.
I would suggest doing your food shopping a little earlier. If you can relax and get someone else to do it. After all, you're already on the Internet so use it to your advantage. Get somebody else to sort and deliver your End of the World supplies. If the world doesn't end you'll still have more than enough edibles to see you through to the next year, age, or whatever.
Get some extra firewood in case the world does end, or cook your meal on the BBQ grill instead. It'll be a novel way to spend the holidays anyway.

2. Get Ready To Play a Neat Party Trick or Two
It'll be that time of the year. Everyone will be at parties (Or hiding, but those people won't be fun anyway). This will be your chance to impress and distract them from the end of the world at the same time. The great thing is that you'll have years to prepare.
One of the predictions is that the poles will reverse. Now just imagine how you can use this piece of inside information to your advantage!
- Get a compass, a big one would be better.
- Just before the poles reverse, gather everyone around. (I'm sure by then they'll have a precise time, they did in 2000 and that went swimmingly)
- Tell them all that you are going to make North become South.
- Watch smugly as they all look at you skeptically.
- Remember here to show them that you have no magnets on you. This may require a strip-tease, if so make sure you've been to the gym at least a few days in the last week.
- Wave the compass in front of them.
- Watch their awe as the needle moves. They'll be so enthralled that the end of the world will go unnoticed.
- Put your clothes back on. It might be a little chilly after the power goes off.
See? There's always ways to use these small and not so small events to show off to a larger audience. Your guests will be glad for the distraction at such a dire time.

3. Spend Like There's No Tomorrow
One of the great things about the world ending is that you won't have to worry about paying the bills any more. Just think of the possibilities! You have a date to work with and everything.
Go on a spending spree. In fact, why stop at one credit card? Get a few more. Spend them up to the limit, too. Get all your cash out of the bank and spend that too. Have you always wanted that fancy car? Have you always wanted to live the Good Life, just like you see in all those work at home sales pages on the web? Who says there has to be financial pain?
Just imagine the look of surprise on your friends and family's faces when you give them everything they've always wanted. Just imagine the look of envy when they see your car and new house on the beach (it won't matter at all when the sea rises and it gets flooded -- maybe you could plan a little ahead here and get the house on stilts).
The key here is to spend up big, like it doesn't matter at all. There won't be a tomorrow to worry about anyway.

2012 Is Just Around The Corner
Long range plans can be a real bore. Let's face it, most people can't decide what they want to wear to work in the morning. Planning for the end of the world is just Too Big for us mere mortals. If this is you then relax and enjoy the end of the world. Who knows, maybe Douglas Adams was right and the Vogons will demolish the whole planet for an interstellar bypass.
The end of the world will be an event that nobody will forget. Have a great time and remember to wear a very fetching party hat., and enjoy the fireworks.

I am extremely skeptical as well. I don't know how many people told me that they thought the Y2K bug would bring down civilisation as we know it, and I disagreed. They had heresay and I had proof - I'd been doing compliance on it for the company I worked for at the time. I had the facts. I had a very good idea how many pieces of machinery were likely to go down.
I had my tongue firmly planted in my cheek when I wrote this, believe me. :-)
Good news is, the end of the world is also interpreted bibically "the world we know." Like the story of Noah and the ark. They said the waters flooded the whole world really meant "flooded they're world" as far as they could see. Are world is in need of change and who's to say a really big change couldn't happen in our world around that time? A discovery that profoundly changes people for the better? I guess we'll see.
I'm not big on prophesy wherever it is found, whether it be in a religious text or the horoscope. I believe the world we live in is affected by what we do in the here and now, and that helps determine a future course. There are things we can change, and there are things ike earthquakes and cyclones that we have no control over. It's how we deal with it that matters. :-)
Hmmm. There is somewhere inside a passage in the Great Pyramid of Gizeh a cryptic timeline that goes on from 2012 a few inches with no further events and then drops off to nowhere. In the mid-1960s some researchers felt that this meant that 2020 would be the final year. Maybe the one that was hewing out the timeline on the rock wall just died and was not replaced. -- Just like some of our work places today. :) LOL I'll be working in 2012.
Hee! There's just no way of knowing. I'm trying to remember off the top of my head about carvings in the Great Pyramid at Giza, and the only thing I can remember is about the grafitti on the top of the roof in the King's Chamber. I should look it up.
More than likely I'll be working, too. Although that close to Christmas I could already be on Christmas Holidays, it being summer down here. :-)
I'll probably be trying to get my Christmas shopping done when the world ends:-)
At least the End of the World will help thin down the crowds a bit. ;-)
I can't wait.
I hope it's not lame like the year 2000 apocalypse was.
For the 2000 apocolypse I was all dressed up with no where to go! What a disappointment that one was. I guess they'll get it right eventually. :-)
Hi Hovalis. Please allow me to share a view with you.
A prophesy may be generally seen as a single "alternate reality" that exists alongside an uncountable number of other similar "alternate realities", all of which originate from one unique point of "time".
To better understand this unproven theory, we can use the analogy of a person reaching a point in his\her life where he\she has to choose what next to do. This point in "time" is the origin from which "alternate realities" are theorized to branch out from.
A prophesy can be percieved to be the "alternate reality" with the highest probability of occurring.
If too many people believe in the occurrance of a future event, no matter how improbable that event may seem, then the phenomena of "Self-Fulfilling Prophesy" could cause that event to materialize.
Thank you for bringing up this controversial topic for us to ponder upon.
first of all the 2000 bug prediction was rediculus COMPUTORS SHUTTING DOWN ENDING THE WORLD just for saying that yo an ass. the predictions of 2012 are scientific as well as biblical. now when have u ever seen those 2 agree on anything DUHHH never people who clown about this are pretty stupid not sayin u should fear it but more about u should try to be preparred for it 1-THEY SAY MOST COASTAL AREAS WILL BE UNDER WATER SO MOVE INLAND AS INLAND AS POSIBLE 2-BUY WEAPONS NOT SAYIN TO GO ON A KILLING SPREE BUT TO PROTECT YOSELF FROM THE SICOS THAT WILL. BETTER TO HAVE THEN NOT HAVE AT ALL I SAY 3-BUY FOOD SUPPLIES LIKE FLASHLIGHTS CANDLES WIND UP RADIOS AND LOTS OF WATER AND SO ON AND SO FORTH 4-MAKE SURE U HAVE LOTS OF WINTER CLOTHING TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM COLD WEATHER. ITS EASY TO UNCOVER BUT HARDER TO COVERUP 5-KEEP A GOOD HEAD ON YO SHOULDERS DONT LOOSE IT. STRONG MINDS CAN PASS THRU HARD TIMES 6-TRY TO HAVE FAMILY AROUND ITS A NESCESITY TO HAVE LOVED ONES AROUND AT HARD TIMES.REMEMBER EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE BUT NOTHINGS IMPOSSIBLE. RELIGION HAS ITS UPS AND DOWNS BUT SCIENCE IS USELY ON THE DOT AND WHEN THOSE TO AGREE ON SOMETHING THIS CRAZY YOUD BE STUPID TO DISAGREE.
WELL i sure believe this not only the mayans said it but notredamus, aztecs ,cherokee, roman oracles and so does some egiptian hirogliphics.AnD just to make sure even thogh u dont believe i jus sugest prepare urself that god is going to judge everyone!
*shrugs* I'm not a believer in God either. As for the prophesies, I'm sure that someone, after the next big world event, will try to slot them into one of the above above predictions. That's usually the way it happens.
Lots of people don't believe in the revelation of 2012, or the fact that the earth will finish its 26,000 year wobble at that time. Rejoice in the thought that those disbelievers too will end up being fried to a crisp when the world goes poof, whether or not you're wearing your party hat, or not! LOL
The "X-Files" predicted it, you say? I've always discounted all the other sources of this prediction, but now I'm getting worried! Please tell me you're kidding about the "X-Files"!! Actually, my hope is that in Dec of 2012 the World will end for all the religious wackos and the rest of us can go on about our business. That ought to thin out the shopping crowds a bit!
Oh yes. The last episode "The Truth" is based on Mulder breaking into a government installation and finding out the invasion date, and that's it. I'm pretty sure they based it on the Mayan calendar. I was a more than a little bit disappointed that the conspiracy all boiled down to that I can tell you.
I'm pretty sure it'll all end up like the Milennium Bug did. But, then again, no one would believe me then that there was no cause for alarm. :-)
I'd say there's a pretty good chance something will happen in 2012. I found a site listing all of the prophecies finally... www.AncientProphet.com has a lot of great information.
soory but you is not telling me the ture to me you are a big fat lier
Once again, in English, perhaps?
"The End of the World" has been interpreted in a couple of different ways, by many people. Some think that, like above, the world, or the Universe itself, will be 'blinked out of existence'. Others think of it in biblical terms, like Noah and his Menagerie, or the Rapture. But there's another school of thought out there, as well. There are those who believe that the 'end of the world' is just the next step in evolution, or society, or whatever, and it will be a new 'Age of Enlightenment'. Personally, I'm not picking sides. What will happen will happen, and whether or not you're prepared for it doesn't matter in the least, regardless of your point of view.
Also, many times, things like this 'end of the world' thing end up being talked about and talked about and talked about, and someone decides to just end all the endless inane babble and go and carry out the prophecy as he/she interprets it, as best they can, making the 'prophecy' come true, when, most times, if they hadn't done anything, nothing at all wouldn't happen. Of course, THOSE events are typically pretty small events that don't actually affect the course of the Universe as a whole, but instead only affect small areas of the world. But, as some would say, maybe that's what the prophecy was talking about happening in the first place. It's all subject to interpretation and, like opinions, everyone has an interpretation, and not all of them are ever the same. So why does everyone worry about something that may or may not come to pass, and that they probably won't have any control over at all? Go about your lives, and if nothing happens, you'll end up being better off for it in the long run.
My 2 cents. :)
Honestly, Vistan, this was just a bit of fun. I think some people think so much about judgement day, the end of the world etc, that they forget to live. Where's the joy in that? I wrote this when I'd seen it all one too many times.
Thanks for reading!
I like the humor. I tend to laugh about a crisis as well. I'm starting to flow with it. Why think about how bad it could get at the expense of the moment. Peter Schiff knows what's up with our economy and that's way more important that misinterpreted prophecy right now.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPmdzKcDe-s&eur
Sorry to be a little off topic, but do you guys realize that this economy that we're used to is breaking down? What it means is debatable but you won't be able to go on living life as usual. Forget about 2012. This year it's only going to get worse and next year is going to suck if you are trying to live life as usual. New Years Parties might be a good idea to make light of it and spend quality time with friends and family, but if you're not ready for changes you will soon be adjusting. For me it's a good time to focus on the finer things in life like meeting new people and learning about community.
There's nothing to get ready for. But we are on a slippery slope right now financially. Enjoy life to the fullest, but it doesn't have to go up in smoke. Whatever partying you want to do, I would suggest getting it in right now this year. I don't know what the end of the world is, but I know a runnaway train when I see one and those who are running our global economy are about to ghost it off a hill into a deep ditch. I'm sure there's a new world backup plan in the works, like a new money system, but I 'd rather just stick with good ol' livin off the land and working together. The end of the world? Not exactly, but deffinitely a rude awakening to those who fear change. Just don't be so quick to sign up for governent aid when it get's rough out there. You're much better off just chipping in with some friends and getting a spot in the country to retreat to when the unemployment rate gets up around 50% and crime becomes a daily nuscance in the city or runaway inflation makes it hard to buy gas and food. It has happened in many third world countries and it will most likely happen here within the next couple years.
By the way, if the economy collapses in our large and complex country, there will likely be a breakdown of many government systems and a sketchy emergency response agenda forcing Obama to call on the UN to summon support from around the world to help manage the problem areas. Occupation by the UN will put a damper on any chances of the US ever being anything like the country we know now. So yeah, whatever your plans for 2012, get it in now and wait for things to get serious. Then go on with your life in a manner more consistant with reality in the new "green" economy.
I do wonder where this particular recession is heading, but I suppose here in Australia, we've managed to skirt the worst of it, so far anyway. It won't last. The Great Depression was felt very badly here due to our mainly agrarian economy at the time and that memory has not faded. I think that's the reason we are desperately trying to hold on. With the financial markets of the world being so intermeshed I don't think it'll last, though.
I'm not an economist, so I don't know the answers, or even how to effectively evaluate what we are being told, and not told for that matter. Planning ahead is a good move in any case. But in a positive manner. One thing that did amaze me was that the Great Depression worsened because consumer spending dropped by 10% after the crash. The stock market was back up to former levels in under a year, but no one was spending. It was consumer confidence in the system that made things worse. I'm not saying to spend or anything like that, but it's a reminder of how fragile the world economy as we know it is. We need a better system. Not sure what that is, but all it needs is someone with a good idea, and someone else in authority to believe in it. I know, I'm an optimist at heart (or very naive)
Hovalis - thanks for the laughs! This was a fun read. What astounds me though is how serious so many of your commentors are. People need to lighten up, apparently... and read more Douglas Adams!
Reading more Douglas Adams is always a good thing! If they have a short attention span there's always the radio plays. Some people don't get the humour. I'm glad you did, Gerg. Thanks for reading. (and watch out for Vogons, always have a towel and use your thumb wisely)
I remember in 1999 December, Wal-Mart putting gallon jugs of water on sale at a discount and people buying truckloads of it. lol
Restaurant at the End of the Universe - yayy!
Dunn Eggink
your attitude about crisis seems to be the kind the new world order types want,us to do. Go along to get along.I know what's going on.
When it comes to community birds of a feather flock together as they say.I hear that some congressmen is pushing a bill that would make it illeagal to grow your own food.
I asssume that the people behind it are afraid that people will stop buying as much food at the stores. You can be sure there is a plan in the works. You may not like it though.
As I understand it the powers that be,burgerbuilders,tri-lateral commisson,CFR consul on foreign relations,World Bank,IMF international monetary fund, the U.N unitednations,The Hague The World Court all want things to under their control.they want less people ,no middle class, only Rich and poor.they know the Rich are on their side for the most part, and they could care less what the poor think. They make money off the poor, food clothing, the section 8 payments used to house the poor, even the prisons are privately owned now.Talk about self-interest.The one thing they don't want is for everyone going off to live off the land like they did a hundred years ago. They can control people better in urban areas. You know people ,they tend to need a kick in the butt to realise what's really going on.If your smart you'll all take his advise and prepare to live a greener life.Hopefully a happy one too.
Patty, I'm glad I wasn't there to see that! I didn't panic, because I had no reason to. You see, the Stock Exchange here in Australia required all listed companies to check and report on compliance. I was one of the people that did the compliance. By the end of it I had hard facts and not speculation. Facts are always better to work with IMO. *G*
Remember if you go to the restaurant at the end of the universe to get the dish of the day. I hear it will come out and make sure it's prepared just as you want..
I assume, someonewhoknows that your research has gone beyond conspiracy sites? That you've take the time and effort to look beyond America? The reason I ask is because I don't live in the US, and it isn't the world. Don't succumb to the propaganda you've been living with all of your life.
Paranoia doesn't lead to action, it leads to fear and paralysis. If you believe that there is something wrong then be part of the solution. Calling me names reflects on you. It's water of a duck's back to me.
Lighten up, dude.
Hovalis
Names ? I must be missing something!
OK I see how you might have thought I was calling you names. That happens to be the name of a hubber who made a comment here.
As for conspiracy,All you need do is look at what's going on in the WORLDS history over the last hundred years, much less couple of thousand tears.
When you say lighten up,do you mean live for today for tommorrow will take care of itself?
Paranoia? Is it paranoia to see the economy being turned upside down?
that social security is quickly being a thing of the past?
that the future of elderly and young workers looking grim,
unless something more positve is done to improve the
economy.?
that people are losing their homes to unscrupulou lending?
As you say you don't live in America, and I don't live in Australia,so lets not be critical of each other it is not
practical.
P.s.You have to know the problem to be part of the solution.Pass the word!
Someonewhoknows,
Your first mistake was not reading the tag or perhaps the article itself, which was clearly humour. Instead you decided to use this hub as a forum to talk about your theories on why the world was about to be taken over by unseen forces. Then you called me. and I quote, "your attitude about crisis seems to be the kind the new world order types want,us to do". So, yes, a little paranoia there, unless you can prove the claim of a New World Order. In my experience, though, even if you have facts people won't believe you. Especially if the media has whipped an issue up to a frenzy. I direct you to Y2K. Anyone with the facts was unworried.
Perhaps you could write a hub and get it all out of your system.
ok just incase an asteriod will crash on 2012 causing the world to end then i think other countrys should start shooting missles at it and aim quickly before it crashes.just like they shot that missle at the sattelite 1 year ago.if the world is going to sink underwater the countrys should start building large ships for their countrys.but im 20-60 percent sure that the world will end on that day.but idk.i keep on hearing diferent stories from other people.but i hope the world wont end on that day.id rather have a solar storm than have the world to end.if you want to reply go to bak.patrick@yahoo.com
2012 was my old address no. on a given street name, but I'm not worried I don't live there no more. :)

Extremely skeptical.
In my short life I have known by name and face five people who have said the same words.
None of them had the grace to admit they were incorrect.
They changed the dates.
Sorry I do not believe this.
Thank you for letting me have two pennies worth.
