The Environment of Alaska
Alaska is a beautiful sate that has succumbed to climate warming on its northern shores to the point that Alsakan Natives are moving at least 50 miles inland. In the 21st century, Alaska government offiical hope to turn the state toward clean sustainable energy sources for th egood of the indigenous and non-indigenous peoples in Alaska as well as the nation.
The sea pack-ice has melted and flooded the shorelines of small communities of Native Americans, driving them back. The upon which they depend for food and commerce have become less plentiful because they have 1) died becuase of rising temperatures, and/or 2) migrated to other waters. The Indigenous People are uprooting their houses, families, schools, agricultural animals and so forth for this long journey. Just as their ancestors did around 10,000 - 12,000 years or longer ago, when they first walked into Alaska and the Pacific Northwest.
The People must migrate in search of more resources, as of old.

Julia - The good attorneys of this land can do much good in this type of project. I'm so glad you visited here!
There's an interesting article in tomorrow's US World & News Report discussing the pipelines, potential problems and possible outcomes at http://www.usnews.com/articles/news/campaign-2008/
If the pipeline is built by the State of Alaska, then anyone going up there to work would also benefit from the annual energy payout, as Alaskans revenue share. This year Palen was able to increase the payout to $3200 per person. This means a family of four automatically gets $12,800 this year simply for living and working in the state.
Thanks, Patty. My husband is also in the energy business.
