The Escape Artist

An adventure, a journey straight on through to Never Land, Once Upon A Time, and Happily Every After, To the leave the world behind for a short time, an escape To the Land of Far Away, to bathe in the dreamy magic of yesterday......is to write and write well.To have an intimate, romantic and volatile relationship with every word. To be bold and brave, holler out words in the darkness, battle insomnia, bashing your head against the wall, a process you can't leave out as you struggle to say what others can not. For as long as the words splash across the page, for as long as there are blank pages to be filled, you are driven by awe inspiring need and desire, climbing between the crisp blank sheets leaving reality and the world behind. To adopt a character and feel as she would feel is to relive an experience and bring forth a passion that is buried deep within me and to sink deeply into my own abyss. As each character evolves breaks free and becomes liberated, so do I.
A writer typically hides behind words, knowing his expressions are born from personal experience, fearing humility and exposure. For all that is written is part of him. The story may be pure fiction but somewhere in the words, hidden in the sentence, between paragraphs .... is the author revealed. His greatest fear, deepest regret, every weakness and heart felt moment... is there for the world to see. You create a mask, a name, which you hide behind so that you may take it off.
There is nothing to writing really. You just sit down with pen and paper or at any key board and open up a vein. There has always been a great deal of justifiable discussion concerning the sanity of a mind that writes or paints or acts or creates. There seems to be some overwhelming evidence to support the theory that most creative minds are tortured minds. It is still an ongoing debate between the realist and the dreamer, mediated by the egocentric psychiatrist. What I do understand for certain is that the only attribute to successfully separate genius from insanity, is success. I might be nuts but I am successful at it!
