Eric Barrior from Elmhurst, Queens and William "Rakim" Griffin from Long Island became a duo by accident. Another MC Freddie Foxx was supposed to show and record but didn't and Eric B. who had paid for his studio time handed the Mic to Rakim. The result was the 1-2 Punch of "Eric B. Is President" b/w "My Melody"
Hip-Hop history would soon follow with their competition squashing debut album PAID IN FULL. The Coldcut Remix to the title track (which is not on the original album) became the definitive 80s 12"

Yeah I have a Slick Rick Mix but it isn't ready yet. I'll try to put it out in say 20 minutes?

nice. i saw rakim in philly for thanksgiving. it was weird to see him not as the main act, but ghostface actually let him go on last. he had a live band playing and needless to say, he killed it. eric b has had some solid production over the years, but is very lucky he found rakim. kinda surprised there's no "what's on your mind" on the list, but hey, it's still a pretty solid mix.
you gonna have a slick rick mix tape? or atmosphere?
