Hip-Hop History: Boogie Down Productions & KRS-One
71THE FIRST GREAT MC!
The Bridge Is Over by Boogie Down Productions
Boogie Down Productions & KRS-One Songs
In bpm order for the DJs!
Boogie Down Productions was founded by Lawrence Krisna Parker (KRS-One) and Scott Sterling (Scott La Rock) who was shot and killed on 8/25/87 at the of 24
Most believe this happened as a result of B.D.P's beef with MC Shan & producer Marley Marl over the record "The Bridge". Shan is from Queens and BDP is obviously from 'the boogie down BRONX'.
He would respond with the scathing classics SOUTH BRONX and THE BRIDGE IS OVER (which interpolates the Billy Joel song "It's Still Rock-n-Roll to Me")
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHooooooooooo
What's the matter with the crowd I'm seeing?
"Don't you know that they're out of touch?"
Should I try to be a straight `A' student?
"If you are then you think too much.
Don't you know about the new fashion honey?
All you need are looks and a whole lotta money."
It's the next phase, new wave, dance craze, anyways
It's still rock and roll to me
Everybody's talkin' bout the new sound funny but
it's still rock n roll to me
- Billy Joel
WOULD NOW BECOME>>>
oooooooooooooooHHHHHHHHHOOOOO
What's the matter with your MC, Marley Marl?
Don't know you know that he's out of touch
What's the matter with your DJ, MC Shan?
On the wheels of steel Marlon sucks
You'd better change what comes out your speaker
You're better off talkin bout your wack Puma sneaker
Cause Bronx created hip-hop, Queens will only get dropped
You're still tellin lies to me
Everybody's talkin bout the Juice Crew funny
But you're still tellin lies to me
-KRS-One
In 1989, KRS-One founded The Stop the Violence Movement with other rappers Chuck D, MC Lyte, Kool Moe Dee, Heavy D & Doug E. Fresh among others.
KRS-One (which stand for Knowledge Rules Supreme Over Nearly Everyone) would also go through nicknames like "The Teacher" and "Kris".
He did guest appearances with people as diverse as SHABBA RANKS "The Jam", R.E.M. "Radio Song" and The Notorious B.I.G. " Player's Theme"
Tracks 1,3,4,5,6,10,11,13,14,15,16 are B.D.P. *** 2,7,8,9,& 12 is KRS-One
