The First of Summer

Summer has come, and on its first week I set out to the countryside. My friends and I have always wanted to try out something new but we never got around to doing it somehow. Each of us had summer school to attend to, so we ran off the first chance we got when everybody was free from school.

Summer had always been spent either on the beach or in the clubs that woke the city every single summer night, so it made a nice change to be somewhere new. The greens that besieged the place looked revitalizing and the clean, fresh countryside air made its presence felt the moment we entered the boundaries of the town as if welcoming us.

First stop was the much talked about town hall which was indeed stylish and very pleasing to the eye. Tall, fat columns lined the frontage of the building and a lofty flagpole stood right smack in the centre of the courtyard while America's flag moved about in the air, the coat of arms against a shiny white background. That was the weirdest world flag I’ve ever seen.

We took the tour around the well-designed hall which was very tastefully done. It resembled the white house, except that this one was way smaller. We took pictures which gave me the opportunity to pick up on my photography skills. The pictures turned out pretty well.

By lunch we found a nice little spot beside a magnificent waterfall. It wasn’t very far above the ground, but was pretty all the same. We gobbled up our humble lunch of grilled fish and sausages. It turned out to be a feast. By mid-afternoon we had already jumped off into the clear, cool waters of the falls. It was refreshing beyond words. I have never felt that serene in a long time.

It is not the best summer getaway ever, because no matter how calming the place was, I’d always be looking for the beach. But it’ll definitely go down memory lane for in the absence of the beach, the bond that enveloped me and my friends all the days we spent there was truly comforting.
