The Flying Scotsman
65The Flying Scotsman refers to 2 things. Firstly as an express passenger train service that has been running between London in England and Edinburgh in Scotland since 1862. The original Flying Scotsman service began in 1862 and has become the most well-known steam engine in the world. The Special first ever "Scotch Express" was re-named the "Flying Scotsman" currently owned by the National Railway Museum in York. The Flying Scotsman is also featured in the PC game "Microsoft Train Simulator".
Secondly, "The Flying Scotsman" is a 2006 award-winning sports biopic, based on the life and career of Scottish amateur Scottish cyclist Graeme Obree who broke the World Hour Record by adopting a unique aerodynamic position on the bike.

The Flying Scotsman depicts Scotland as a beautiful country, with sporting gift not to be forgotten but to be remembered. It is a small movie with plenty of charm and has a good deal in common with "The World's Fastest Indian", another little story with a big heart. The Flying Scotsman is really interesting, with flashes into a sport not often covered in the movies. But the Flying Scotsman is not just a film for cycling enthusiasts but for everyone. It's rousing, inspiring, exciting and often very funny. The Flying Scotsman is truly the greatest version of the extraordinary and remarkable story of the amateur Scottish cyclist who adopted a unique riding position (the "crouching" or "tucking" position) to win a major championship.
