The GRY Riddle Mystery
66Years ago, I received this email:
** There are three words in English that end in "gry." The first two are "angry" and "hungry," and if you've listened closely, you'll agree that I've already told you the third one.**
This totally stumped me. I could not think of another English word that ended in the letters "gry".
It was not until a couple of years later that I came across it again, and finally the mystery was solved.
***
WARNING: I'm about to reveal the solution, so if you want to work it out for yourself, don't read any further unless, like me, you find yourself totally baffled!
***
There is apparently NO other common English word ending in "gry". However, the question was supposed to be asked verbally, not in an email.
When asked verbally, "gry" sounds like "gree", as in an"gree" and hung"gree", so the answer is "agree" (and the person posing the riddle has already said the word "agree", so they have told you).
I think that email was definitely a case of passing on a riddle without having the foggiest idea as to the answer!
