The Good Cops

I'm sure most of you had your share of experience when being pulled over for speeding. You explode and try to defend yourself. Yes, even I got one ticket from a cop for going through a yield sign and had my first accident with another vehicle. The cop was nice to make sure I was okay, but the other driver wasn't so happy. But hey, if you think about it, its part of their job to keep us straight whether they like it or not. Imagine having to deal with difficult folks and trying to keep everyone at peace everyday. For parents, its tiresome to break your kids up over anything stupid. But for cops, its the same but we are dealing with an even more aggressive big babies.

The reason why I'm writing this hub was from a retired/veteran cop. He and I had a nice conversation when I did his manicure, that doesn't mean he's gay now! He is having a funeral for his wife, and wants to have some nice hands to shake with everyone.

He told me an great story concerning a homeless women. This little old lady had some type of mental illness and couldn't get a job. She was always dragging around her little red wagon. She helps pick up some empty bottles and soda cans to recycle for little money. He said, that she doesn't bother anyone and was keeping the streets cleaned. She stays in a storage house as a means for shelter. He knew that its not right to let her stay there as a police officer, but that's better than sleeping in the dangerous street at night. They later throw a suprise birthday party for this little old lady.

I was pretty moved by that story so I told old him what happened when our house was broken in to by a 12-year-old boy. All he took was my moms piggy bank and my playstation 2. I was pretty upset since I had a lot of my games saved on that one particular memory card with the psp 2. The kid that broke in to our house along with his buddies were caught later. I got some money back for what he stole but not my psp 2!? Anyways, one of the cops spotted my old car that I use to name Angel. He told me that my inspection has been expired months ago! But seeing my situation, he didn't write me up for that. (PHEW!)

My client said that he tries to teach his fellows to let people off the hook or give them a warning at least. There was no reason to make things worse than it already is for folks. The thing is to keep the situation under control and negotiate a better way.

I'm beginning to understand what's it like to be in a cops shoe...

Mr. Nice Cop

Yes once in awhile you find a cop that hasn't let his badge or gun go to his head but as a single guy, I've pretty much had all i can take with being treated like a potential criminal every time I am approached, I have done there job before and how you approach a situation sets the tone for the entire encounter.if everyone you meet that isn't wearing your uniform is dirt in your eyes guess what you're going to meet a lot of citizens that feel the same way about you.

Hahaha!!! I got away with a lot of things in my lifetime (so far) and I'm grateful for each and every occasion is which I did skip away "ticket free." Some of the best tips that I can give is the following when a cop is following you and hits his lights/siren:

1) Pull over immediately when it's safe to

2) If it's dark out, turn on your map light/interior light

3) Take out your license and registration and have them ready to hand over Johnny Law

4) Keep both hands on your steering wheel at 10 and 2 o'clock just as you were taught!

5) When Johnny Law (or Janey Law, depending) walks over to you greet 'em with a smile and a, "Hi! How are you?"

This might sound corny, but the $hit works. Trust me!

Thanks for sharing this hub, May! It's always great to read new stuff from you. I know you're busy and by the way, how's college??? TTYS.

Just think.. there's a good one out there! And he has nice nails! Bet that doesn't get mentioned in the station! I'm glad you know what became of Angel, and sorry you've yet to recover your psp2 memory card. Shame.

It's always best to keep you head when dealing with the police. Arguing, yelling and complaining doesn't get you anything except more trouble. Sounds like you met a good cop. Thanks for the great read, May!
