I love to frequent thrift stores where I live. One of my favorite haunts is Goodwill. We have 8 locations throughout the valley, and one thing which has made shopping such a pleasure is their monthly sales calendar. You can pick one up at any location. They are available in both English and Spanish. With 35% of our population comprised of people of Hispanic heritage, this was a wise move. The calendar can also be accessed and printed from Goodwill’s website.

Map & Locations

One side provides a map and locations of all of the retail stores and donation center locations in Southern Nevada, which includes Las Vegas, Henderson and Boulder City. The map and locations are unfortunately not available on sngoodwill.org, the regional Goodwill website, so here is a list of their Retail Locations:

The store hours for all of the locations are Monday – Saturday, 9am-9pm, Sunday 10am-6pm. All of the stores accept donations during normal store hours. Goodwill DOES NOT ACCEPT large appliances such as washers, dryers, and refrigerators, nor do they accept mattresses, box springs, actually quite a few things you’d think they would, such as magazines, so it pays to check first.

You can also donate gently used clothing and other household items at Goodwill’s Attended Donation Centers (ADC) in the parking lots of local businesses, whose normal hours of operation are 9am-6pm, seven days a week. Here is a list for your nearest locaton of the Attended Donation Centers:

The Sales Calendar

The flip side features a sales calendar. You can also sign up online to receive their newsletter for more money saving coupons. Please note: Sales Cannot Be Combined.

Incoming merchandise is tagged with one of four colored price tags (green, orange, white or blue) depending on the week it is added to the sales floor. Each week items with a particular color tag are 50% off (Monday through Saturday) and 99 cents on Sunday. The next week another color goes on sale. Yellow, pink and red tagged items are not included in any sales.

In addition, Special Sales Are Run Every Day of the Week:

Teacher & High School/College Student Sunday (25% off with proper ID)

Military Monday (25% off with ID)

Casino Tuesday (25% off with Employee ID)

Senior Day (Wednesdays, 25% off for 55 & Older)

Police, Fire & EMT Thursday (25% off with ID)

In-Store Specials (Fridays, a.k.a. Manager Specials, although they can have them any day of the week, even during certain hours of the day, and they vary from store to store, so it pays to call ahead)

Saturdays alternate between 50% off clothes & books and 25% off everything (except yellow, pink and red tagged items)

Goodwill carries everything and anything, from books to toys to kitchenware, furniture, bedding, bric-a-brac, and of course, clothing. A good portion, probably 50% of the floor inside every store is dedicated to women’s, children’s and men’s clothing. Accessories also abound. I purchased some mens thin and narrow vintage ties for myself the other day. As a woman of normal stature, I find that mens neckties which are four inches wide simply don’t look good on me. Quite frankly they make me look like a pear! So for a fun fashion statement I stick with neckties in the 2 ½ to 3 ½ inch range. I especially love vintage men’s designer ties when trying to pull off a completely unique look. Goodwill carries a lot of men’s and women’s belts, but they are light on women’s scarves.

The Goodwill thrift stores definitely fill a niche, and are worth exploring any given day when you are not in a hurry. They are generally clean and easy to navigate and the staff is helpful. Give them a try!
