The Grand Canyon
69
A Grand Vacation To A Grand Canyon....
Going on a long trip...to a place far away...
Out where the Grand Canyon sits in the Sun all day.
Sand and Sun come together...way out there in the West...
For Eons there...Canyon Rock and the Colorado River have been put to the test.
Color was added all Around...and On the Sides...
To Change with the Sun...as it Rises...Then Hides.
Many Men Of Whom...Were Of No Name...
Have Stood On These Cliffs...All Saw the Same.
And I have traveled...Many Times Across the Southwest...since I was kid...
To See this Grand Canyon... Put on a show...like nothing else ever did !
YOU CANYON...That makes me feel so small...
What tales do you hide...Well...Within your Canyon Wall ?
Was it Indians or Conquistadors...Who first stumbled across you..."Oh, You Know !"
"Grand Ol' Canyon...Who was the First to Stumble Across You...So Long Ago?"
The Eagle Nearby Could Tell Us...But He is too busy above in the Sky...
What Peace He Must Feel To Be There... I'll Let Him Be Free To Fly !
I See Shadows Move Against Earthly Ribbon Hues of Red, Yellow, Orange, and Brown...
The Shade of the Purple-Blue Sky Above...Trickles Against the Color of Sand on the Ground.
Like No Place I Have Seen On This Planet Before...
The Grand Canyon...Will Be Here...Till Mankind is No More.
I Watch As An Indian Dances...Up High Upon A Canyon Ridge...
As All Time Becomes This Time...And All Time Forms A Bridge.
And As I Sit...Admiring the Setting Sun...
I See Where Time Bridged Together...Where Time First Begun.
Out Past the Highways where the Rest of the World Speeds By...
The Canyon Sits Quietly...Beckoning You To See The World Through Earth's Own Eye.
And As I Look Way Down Into the Grand Canyon...There Below My Feet...
I See Where Time Allowed the Canyon Rock and the Colorado River Below Me To Meet.
Grand Canyon of Beauty...I'm Enjoying Being Here...On Such A Grand Vacation...
I'll Be Back...on my next Southwest trip to you...For more Grand Canyon Exploration !
So Wonderful to be at Peace here...and See such a Wonderful View...
Look At You, Grand Canyon...With Each Twist Of The Sun...You Reveal Something New !

I love the Grand Canyon and have been there many times. Each time is like the first time. Great tribute to an amazing place.
Azur Moon Wolf: Thank you for your great comment. I can see that you're a big fan of the place...I'm glad that this poem helped to do it proper justice...as you read about it. Truly, I could sit on a Ridge there...for Time Immortal...And it sounds like you could too! Sincerely, MPM
Disturbia: It is a very Grand Place to be...I understand why you love it. I agree with what you said...about seeing it each time...like the first time! Thank you so much for your comment and for stopping by and reading this poem, Disturbia. It is good to hear from ya', Best Regards, MPM
MPM - "Look At You, Grand Canyon...With Each Twist Of The Sun...You Reveal Something New !" True words and nicely written. Great photos, too. Thanks. Gus
Unfortunately, the farthest "west" I have been is Pittsburgh, PA! So I have not had the pleasure of visiting the Grand Canyon, although it is on my "to-do" list. But from your poem and the pictures, I feel I was standing right there with you! :)
Thanks Gus...for your comment and for reading this poem. Hope you're doing well, my friend. All those pictures make me wish that I was there on a beautiful day...watching the scenery! Appreciate you stoppin' by here...and getting to hear from ya'...Sincerely, MPM
Azur Blue Moon: Well...We'll probably have to go tear you away from the place once you get there...It is that beautiful. I know you will love it...Hope you can schedule it in...and get over to it...real soon. I really appreciate what you said about this poem helped you feel like you were there. These pictures on here are very close to the beauty you would be able to see...in Panoramic View (in person) Sorry though...couldn't supply that!
Beautifully crafted poem full of color and insights...We live 40 minutes from the Grand Dame and you are so right when you say " each twist of the sun..." reveals a new sight...stop by and say hello next trip out this way...Larry
maven101: Why Thank You, My Friend...How ya' been? Would surely be great to stop by and say "Hi"...the next time I am up that way. Thank you for your great comment. The "Grand Dame"...is what the locals call her? Interesting note...and well-suited! That is beautiful country up there. Course...I love the Southwest! Most be great to go watch a sunset or sunrise there often. Semper Fi, MPM.
Thanks, manlypoetryman. I visited the Grand Canyon twice and would love to visit annually if I could. Thanks for the awesome poem. I'm sure many a people from all over the globe and all across time has visited its vastness!
I also wrote a hub on the Grand Canyon--namely the West Rim and Skywalk ;)
And like dohn121, I have also written a hub about the Grand Canyon. With each passing cloud or time of day, the colors on the rocks change and offer a scene new to enjoy. It is a visitors, photographers, hikers, river rafters and yes...even armchair traveler's (who might be reading this hub and others) best friend. I also LOVE the West!
Thanks for this great poem! Your love of the Grand Canyon shows through your words.
I feel so left out! I haven't published a Grand Canyon visiting hub.. *sniff*.. Peggy promised to take me next time she's going.. didn't you Peggy? LOLOL!
This is beautiful MPM! Fantastic Grand Canyon Pictures! You'll be a tour guide before you know it! Thank you!
Manly, your pics and words make me yearn to visit and cover the whole canyon. I mean to visit a chunk at a time, it's so beautiful. Thanks.
wonderful pix and poem too. never been there yet, too hot or too cold
dohn121: I'll have to check out your Hub on the Grand Canyon. Appreciate your comment about this poem. Sounds like you have quite an interest in the Grand Canyon...as I do. I also think it would be great to go there annually...I'm still wanting to hike all the way down to the bottom and stay awhile...so far...only spent a day there each time I visited it...'cause we were always truckin' right thru the Southwest... But Not Next time...though!
Peggy W: Hey there...Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Will Also...have to go read your Hub on it! Sounds like you share the same appreciation for the spectacular views of the changing colors that are on display...as I do...and as others have commented. Us Texans love the West...right!? It only takes a few Sunsets out West...till you get hooked anyways! Again, Thanks for this great comment...Great to see that ya' liked this one all about "The Grand Canyon".
Ms. Candie V: Why haven't you done your Hubwork on the Grand Canyon yet...! :) You're always the funny one, CV!
Hey...Thanks for your great comment on this Poem...Do you think they are hiring for tour guides there...that would be a real fun job. I'd be that kind of tour guide that always tells everyone to "Keep it moving...'cause there is too much to see...C'mon people...get the lead out...Move it, Move it...!" Keep up your great sense of humor up, my friend...We need the laughs!!!
Ya' know Flightkeeper...you really should go see it. You sound like it already intriques you and that you would enjoy it thoroughly. It would be well worth the trip. Promise! (I'm beginning to talk myself into going right back to see it...right away!) Thanks for your great comment about this poem.
ralwus: Thank you, my friend...Appreciate you commenting on this "Grand Canyon" Poem here. You should travel there anyways...I don't remember the actual climate of the inside of the canyon in the summer (Winter...not sure either?)...but I remember it was not too unbearable...we hiked all day! Whatever it is...you'd find it well worth the journey...if you like the pics...you should certainly see it for yourself!
Beautiful - It really makes one want to be there!
Mountains and canyons have a very special quality that make me feel so small and insignificant when you see how majestic they are!
Lovely poem! Tribute to another of nature's wonders.
This is one wonder that I have always wanted to visit. Now, I want to go even more!!! *sigh* Thank you for taking me on this grand tour -- it'll have to do until I see it with my own eyes!
Great hub! When a group of college students paid a field trip visit to this magnifient site and were to write something in their journal, one old boy from the mountains of Carolina had swritten,"I spat a mile." thanks for sharing.
Robert Ballard
Laura du Toit: Thank you for your comment. It truly is one of Nature's Wonders, Laura...It does make you feel small though...while amongst the ridges and in the canyon. Makes one humble to realize that we are only small part...of all the wonders around us!
Beth100: Glad you liked this Grand Poem Tour of the Grand Canyon...Although mere words are not us good as really seeing it though. You should try to get down to it...when you have the chance...Well worth the trip! Thank you for stoppin' in and reading this one, Beth...Appreciate It!
Putz Ballard: Thank you, Sir...for your comment...glad you like this poem hub. That college student "mountain-boy" now has sufficient bragging rights to a proud accomplishment...juz' hope he don't get that confused into thinkin' that he's now a member of the "Mile-High" Club!
Sincerely, with a laugh or two, MPM.
Very insightful — I never had the chance to look at your work until now. I'm glad I stumbled upon it; you have a great insight and know your way well around words. Was a pleasure to see the Grand Canyon through your perspective and imagery. Thank you =].
Arthur Gulumian: Appreciate what you said about the insight. Glad you stumbled by and were able to read some of my work and that you liked this one on "The Grand Canyon". Will have to go and read some of your work...as well. Thanks for this great comment. Best Regards, MPM
Beautiful Pics, Beautiful Poem. Hope I get to see it one day. :)
Thank you, Lady E...I hope you get to see it some day...also. Thank you for your comment and for reading this one!

I liked this a lot. You put into words what I believe everyone thinks when they visit an old place...who stood right where I stand now hundreds of years ago?...It is pretty amazing when you think about it.
My favorite part:
Like No Place I Have Seen On This Planet Before...
The Grand Canyon...Will Be Here...Till Mankind is No More.
I Watch As An Indian Dances...Up High Upon A Canyon Ridge...
As All Time Becomes This Time...And All Time Forms A Bridge.
