The Hallmark Of Politics - Voting For Sinners

The accusations of lewd conduct, the partial confession, the resignation,
the investigation, the complete confession and ouster of political types
from both sides of the aisle really stir the political pot, but especially
prior to an election. t's true that such revelations have been mild this
campaign season, but even those not into politics seem to have an opinion
of such happenings, since the media will not let them escape the high
profile nature of the event. Regardless of where you stand or what you
believe to be the correct response to any scandal, a common refrain seems
to emerge from those who desire to protect their own political turf. This
is true for all political sides when it comes to sexually charged
allegations, whether true or not. But especially if the facts reveal
the allegations to be accurate.

I find it amazing that Democrats and Republicans both fall back on the
biblical idea that we are all sinners. This is expected to justify, explain
and ameliorate the unsavory actions of those on their side, which ever side
that may be. Imagine that! Such reliance on Biblical ideas to attempt to
give proper context to human failures! WOW! And from those who, so much of
the time, attempt to separate themselves from merging religious ideas with
modern political realities. Or worse, it comes from those who would have you
think that because a person publicly holds to certain values, they are more
worthy to be elevated to public office or held in higher esteem than others
not embracing the same lofty values.

And if some of these sinners happen to commit a rather gross sin, a sin even
the most hardened sinner may have a difficult time overlooking. Well.......
.....the sinners on the same side of the exposed sinner choose the difficult
task; they overlook the gross act. While overlooking this teammate and his
actions, reasons are offered for the offender remaining in power. If per
chance the offender chooses to step down from official positions of power,
the public is reminded that this person was only a sinner, just like the rest
of us.

By the way, when it comes to sexual promiscuity and illicit acts by
politicians and religious leaders involved in political activism, things have
not changed since the beginning of time. I will admit, though, that it makes
me wonder just what type of special group this cabal of sinners is, these
sinners known as politicians. Maybe we have been a bit too cynical and quick
to judge these rather ready admissions of sinfulness.

Is it possible that they are truly identifying themselves? You may ask,
"how so?" Well, let's examine this for a minute.

Ask yourself the question. "What is sin?" The bible tells us that sin is the
breaking of the law of God. So, when God gives us a command and we break it,
that constitutes sin. The act of breaking the law of God makes the lawbreaker
a sinner. If you identify yourself as a sinner, you are telling everyone that
you regularly break the law of God. Breaking the law of God has become your
hallmark.

Transfer that Truth over to the political realm where we have politicians
regularly identifying themselves as sinners when their sin is exposed. This
plea can be accepted as it is because so many have taken this mantle upon
themselves when needed. Non-members can take them at their word. If you really
don't buy this argument, please consider the legal requirement to become an
acting member of this public group of sinners. How much more appropriate can it
possibly be to join a group identified by their sinful actions against God than
to initiate that membership by breaking a command of Jesus Christ. That's right!
Every public official, in order to perform the duties of office, is required to
swear the oath of office. Jesus Christ specifically forbid this action by His
Followers. To swear an oath is breaking this commandment. It is a sin. It
welcomes you into the privileged world of politics, the politics of sin.

This November provides you the God given opportunity to choose your favorite

sinner, a distinctively Christian duty if there ever was one!
