What is it?

Yerba maté is a species of holly native to subtropical South America. It's an evergreen shrub that has small greenish white flowers and red berries. For centuries, the Guarani Indians used tea from the leaves of the wild yerba bush which grew in the rainforest. They loved it for its many health benefits which stimulate the body's immune system. It can aid digestion, and reduce stress. It was so effective that they called it the "Drink of the Gods".

Yerba maté is very tightly packed with antioxidants and nutrients. Yerba maté is also high in polyphenols which are compounds that act as powerful antioxidants and are beneficial because they exibit anti cancer properties. Yerba Mate leaves contain saponis which are phytochemicals that have been found to stimulate the immune system and protect the body against disease.

Other Benefits

In addition, Yerba Mate has been found in a recent study to promote cell survival better than even red wine and green tea. It also contains the mood elevator and muscle relaxant found in chocolate. It is very high in B Vitamin, which can also benefit the metabolism and are beneficial for fighting stress.

Weightloss

Can it be used for weightloss? In a word, yes it can certainly help. Though if used by itself you may not lose weight, but it has been found to give people the energy boost and mental clarity that they need to stick to their weightloss program.

Used alone, it may not be the only answer for you. However, in combination with other herbs, it certainly can give you a boost.

If weightloss is your goal, then you may want to give it a try in addition to a health weightloss program or plan that is right for you.
