The "High Fashion" Garden FirePots.
75So I was reviewing a new line up of firepots and came across this article on wikipedia about fire pots. Although there are similarities, the differences are what got me to thinking...hey, these are "High-Fashion" if that is the definition.
The entry starts out by saying (you can catch the whole article with the link above), "A fire pot is a container, usually earthenware, for carrying fire. Fire pots have been used since prehistoric times to transport fire from one place to another, for warmth while on the move, for cooking, in religious ceremonies and even as weapons of war", and actually the first sentence "A fire pot is a container, usually earthenware, for carrying fire" stilll really holds true in these new creations.
My point is going more towards the "fashion" (as does history) repeats itself. Whether in "fashion" clothing, which is a passion of mine as well, or in home and garden decor "fashion", we tend to see revitalizations of the same things (silhoettes, etc.).
Moving forward here, the description at wikipedia really stood out to me because I've been thinking of how this new firepot reminds me of those ancient firepots that would burn oil! Yes, hard to believe now...burning crude oil, open flame and all, right in your powder room right...lol.
But seriously, haven't you ever sat through a movie like Hamlet or 300 or any other movie like that and just been lured by the sexy'ness of those "oil burning" bowls of fire?
I know I always do. And with the long drapped, billowing velvet looking materials afixed to the ever so high ceilings. You know what I'm talking about (if you don't just stop now and come back when you do).
Now that the hazards of the burning agent argent are out, due to an environmentally friendly bio-fuel, it's safe to say that we can adorn that inner desire and have that mood recreated.

Now, do you see what I'm talking about with the sexyness from the movies?
Personally, I'm a huge fan of "fabulousness", decorating, art, design (I do have a design degree to give me some elbow room here when I say this) and, yeah, Cool Things!
My point here, as I promised you, was that, as in the wikipedia article, these too are fire pots but with a much higher design (fashionable) asthetic. History repeats its self and as it does, give us that nostalgia of "the memorable past".
We will always have a desire for beauty!
We will always have a desire for nature and gardening.
As humans, there will always be that primal attraction to fire and natural elements.
And, as we are exposed to it, "high fashion", in the form of clothing, automobiles, jewelry, hair-do's or garden decor, our desire to identify, fascinate and eventually obtain these items will always continue.
Until we meet again ~ stay cool!
(The Artisan glazed ceramic firepots that you see here are about 12 inches wide! If you wanted, you could really get creative with the areas or rooms that you use these. I know we are going to).
