The History of Coins;dimes through quarters
73Preface
I hope you are all enjoying this series on the history of United States coins.
If you haven't seen the first two hubs in this series, here are the links:
Draped bust
The first dimes to be minted were the draped bust variety-seen here>
They were minted from 1796-1807.Most coinage of this era was the draped bust. These are highly sought after coins.Dimes are a staple of my collection and the majority of pictures in this hub will be from my collection, but the draped bust and the next one I don't have yet.Maybe that right priced one will come along.
The draped bust was originally developed adding stars to the back for each state.Soon the mint realized there will be more states then amount of coin area and ordered a design change.

Seated Liberty
All the next dimes are pictures from my collection. They are in order, and then pictures of the backs are also in order.
The first in this list is the seated liberty dime. This also,I feel, was a beautiful design. They were minted from 1837-1891.There were several different varieties of these. Some had stars, some with arrows by the dates, and some had the legend{United States of America}.the design was real similar to a British design.

Barber dime

Mercury dimes
These coins,I will have to say are my favorite collector coin.I have quite a few.The one pictured is like brand new.I wouldn't sell it for less than $600.
They are called Mercury dimes when really the head is not the god Mercury. It is lady Liberty wearing a phrygian cap, which depicts freedom and liberty. The coin is really called a winged liberty dime.
They were minted from 1916-1945.
