The Holy Ghost's Classroom
61An Unforgettable Encounter
The Holy Ghost conducts an active ,intensive, life enhancing global class that is designed to meet the needs of each student. Social status and intellectual ability are secondary to desire for truth, obedience to God and faith.
AN UNFORGETTABLE ENCOUNTER
Nicodemus, a Pharisee and religious leader, visited Jesus one night. He recognized Jesus as a uniquely distinctive, God -sent teacher and miracle worker [John 3:2]. Jesus responded to this inquisitive student with an analysis of his need. Regeneration[ v.3] was a priority. Puzzled, Nicodemus expressed a burning question[v.4]. The crux of the matter is that being born again does not result from intellectual knowledge, though knowledge is important. Rebirth is a gift that is manifested through faith[v.16]. Jesus concluded with a choice - darkness or light [vs.21-22]. Those who choose Jesus walk with the Light of the World.
WASHED
Jesus used the familiar- water - to initiate a conversation with a Samaritan Woman [John 4].. Salvation breaks down every barrier; and Jesus was offering an irresistible gift [v.14]. The woman wanted the Holy Spirit; but He convicts of sin. Thus, Jesus permitted her to confess her faulty lifestyle [v.17]. He settled the Samaritan Woman's inquiries about true worship. True worship begins within the body temple ; and Jesus declares this during His discourse [vs. 21 -24].
Water cools and refreshes ; and it is with Holy Ghost joy that we draw water from the well of salvation [Isaiah 12: 2-3].. The Samaritan Woman's joy was full; and she had to tell everyone - the men in her city. She invited them to come to see Jesus. The love of God had been shed abroad in her heart by the Holy Ghost [Romans 5:5]. Jesus conducted two days of revival ; and the men were different [vs.40 -43]. They had been washed by the water of the Word; and they were new creations now [2 Corinthians 5:17]..
THE RULE OF LOVE
In many classrooms, the first order of business is rules and regulations. The Holy Ghost has but one law - rule : You shall love the Lord with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind; and love your neighbours the way you love yourself. This rule is enforced, taught, and modeled. There is no joy, peace, patience, meekness, goodness, temperance or faith without love [Galatians 4: 22 -23]. All actions must be seasoned with love[ 1 Corinthians 13:1]. because it is the greatest enduring quality [v13]. God is love and everyone whoo practices love is abiding in God; and God lives within that person [1 John 4:16].
AN ECONOMICAL TEXT
Purchasing textbooks is an investment that many parents and students despise, sometimes for valid reasons. Books are expensive; and often their use do not warrant the investment. The Holy Ghost uses an economical text - the Holy Bible. It is a canon of sixty six books bound into one volume. Available in many editions - as well as in printed form, on cassette tape, CD Rom, DVD - the text remains standard and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, correction and instruction [ 2 Timothy 3: 16]. The Holy Ghost is the final authority, the One who inspired holy men to write; and He provides individualized instruction free of charge. His sole purpose is to teach, guiding students into all truth [John 16:13].
SCOPE AND SEQUENCE
Every year in some schools, teachers look at the curriculum and decide if it needs to be revised and updated to meet the changing needs of a technological society. For others, like the Holy Ghost, the course is standard and effective. Since the courses are intergrated, they employ whole language, multi- intelligences, cooperative learning and individualized instructions techniques.
Everyone learns basic skills through reading, writing, listening, speaking, viewing and thinking. Talents and abilities are developed and ministry gifts manifested as students work with each other for mutual development. All receive personal attention. Unlike most schools, there is a round the clock schedule of classes ; and there are individualized timetables. The Master Teacher , who is well- versed in every aspect of the curriculum, conduct classes according to His will and plan for each student.
The scope of the curriculum is designed to meet every need and interest. Among the topics offered at any given time are:
Stress Management [1 Peter 5:7], Opening Invisible Windows [Malachi 3:10],
Impromptu Speaking [Psalm 81:10], Warfare [Ephesians 6:10 -18]
The Healing Power Of Laughter [Proverbs 17:22],
Success And Prosperity Made Simple [Joshua 1:8]],
Healthy Living Principles [Daniel 1: 8 -17], Principles Of Harvest [Ecclesiastes 11:1],
Run To Win [Hebrews 12:1], Maintaining Healthy Roots [Psalm 1: 1-3],
Seeing The Invisible [Hebrews 11:1], Home And Family Life [Ephesians 6;1-3],
Developing Boldness [Acts 1:8],
Character Sketches, Bizarre Stories and Satisfying The Belly[ Proverbs 18:20,21]. The length of the course may be minutes, hours, days, weeks, months or even years.
CERTIFICATE OF APPROVAL
Those who take courses have a goal in mind. Often, this is to upgrade one's qualifications or improve skills in a given area. The requirement to obtain credit or a certificate is usually stated at the beginning of the course. One unforgettable course I took as a college student was Basic Photography. The professor told us that B was the passing grade for every assignment. I progressed well until the blocking and dodging assignment. Since I did not possess the SLR 35 mm camera that was needed - based on the text - I had to improvise and create what was required for the assignment with my fixed focus 35 mm camera!
Fortunately for me, my interest in photography began as a teenager and I have progressed with it from the Brownie to the digital camera. Thus I love photography. Next, I had to study the text and analyze the assignment. After it was clear to me, I shot the roll of film and cut down my hours in the darkroom by producing quality work. I hated the idea of having to repeat the assignment. Most of all, my love for photography spurred me to take pride in my workmanship and obtain a B grade.
STUDY TECHNIQUES
The Holy Ghost has not only been entrusted with guiding students into all truth but making sure that they analyze - that is, rightly divide it! Thus,, He exhorts students to study with this goal [2 Timothy 2: 15] in mind. By the end of each course, the Holy Ghost expects students to be able to identify, that is recognize truth, understand, apply and analyze it ; and they are to evaluate its relevance in a modern society. Achieving this goal will produce approval from God and quality workmanship.
There are many different ways of studying but memory or knowledge level is fundamental. One night when I was helping my niece with her homework, I discovered that she had not mastered her multiplication tables. I declared that she would not go to bed that night until she had learned them! Of course I had to sit up with her ; and I tested her at intervals. She graduated from high school at fifteen and completed Junior College by seventeen! Most of all, she passed her Maths too!
David provides two study methods. He said that he hid - embedded - the Word of God in his heart so that he would not sin against God. Throughout the Psalms, David declares that he loves the Word of God - His laws , statutes and testimony. In Psalm 1, David advises those who would live righteously to meditate on the Law day and night. Continually go over the Scriptures in your mind until it becomes a part of you, causing you to flourish spiritually, like a tree that is beside Living Waters. The Word of God is active [Hebrews 4:12]. Those who grow by flowing waters are washed and renewed daily [2 Corinthians 4:16].
The Bereans were commended for their research skills. They searched the Scriptures to find out if what they had heard was truth. However, these Bereans benefitted just because they searched. By doing so, they obeyed jesus [John 5:39]. Those who want to find out more about Jesus have to seek - look for Him [Isaiah 55:6]. He is not lost for He has bequeathed to all those who desire to know Him better His will - found in the the Old and New Testaments. Thus, seeking God signifies a desire to find and learn more about Him.
God has brought me to the point where I do leave home without American Express but I dare not go without my Bible. Since an experience in Colorado, I travel with my Bible deliberately ; and God has been providing opportunities for me to minister- to share the Word. He just like to stir up my gifts!
Sometimes when I open the Bible to the exact text I need, like I did yesterday morning when I desired to share information with a friend, I smile and say,"Holy Ghost, you are at it again!" Then I thank God for my teacher.,
