The Importance of Internal Linking in Hubpages

Hubpages is a go between wikipedia and a blog. Your content should be informative and provocative to receive comments and opinions. Interaction is important to the hubpage formula of communicating online. You may supplement the hubpage article with videos, photos, external links, and revenue capsules of ebay and amazon. Your goal is to clearly explain what you are writing about so that you can have a dialogue with the reader. Your topic of conversation online at hubpages is the essence of reeling in the reader to understand what you are writing about.

The importance of the internal links is to provide additonal relevant information as a reference or footnote article to what you have wrote about in your hubpage. Hubpages is strict on the usage of too many internal links because of the propensity to overpromote a website or a domain. There is a limit of no more than two internal links to your Hubpage article. If you are writing to convey information, you may not want to include more than one link to your hubpage article. The internet is a web of information and you want the reader to come back from the link to comment if they chose to read the link before completing the article.

Research of Google Adsense indicated that Google likes to see links in your hubpage article. The Google bot can easily follow the text and the links are in the language that Google is accustomed. So putting the two links in your hubpage article is a good thing if you are looking to earn money on hubpages with Google Adsense. Linking repeatedly the same site is not allowed on hubpages and is considered to be overpromotional. Therefore, do limit the amount of links that you use on your hubpage article.

The external link is explained in the video tutorial as a part of the article. Again, do not list the same website repeatedly as your hubpage article may be tagged as overpromotinal. The external link may not be in the content of the article but is considered to be a part of the overall hubpage that you are working on for publication. The external links as well as the internal links must be relevant to the content of the hubpage article. The relevancy should be evident without any "long tail" connection that cannot be explained as immediately relating to the topic or subject matter.

I can't watch any of the videos on any hub and hate it when hubbers put them in as I just get a huge white space where the video should be, grrrrrrrr

cindyvine, I get that white space for the video in the edit mode, but only briefly then the video shows up.I find that adding a few videos adds "life" to the video with sound as well as the photos contained in the video. I have reduced the number of photos because like you, the photo function sometimes leaves the photo off except for the Capsule Topic. Also, another hubber informed me that a photo at the top of the page evades the Google Adsense Ads so I leave the space open for the population of Google Ads. I know you are not interested in Google Adsense but had to include a comment about it because of the conversation on videos and photos.

Mark Knowles, the computer I am using is 2003.  I may have to use the 2007 laptop if a difference in the computer hardware has anything to do with the white space that shows up instead of the white space.  The video is showing up on the 2003 Desktop Computer.  Do you have windows XP or Vista? You would think that all Windows applications would be compatible.  Try another article that has video and see what happens.

In everyone of my hubs i link to other hubbers that have written on the same topic, sometimes it is 10 or more. Would this be considered overpromotional? I am just tru=ying to give some hubluv

fortunerep, thank you for your comment. If you are listing more than two internal links in your hub, the hub should be flagged as overpromotional. I have not visited you yet as I shall visit all of the hubbers who leave approved messages. So at this writing, I can not comment on your use of 10 or more as you may just be mentioning the hubbers articles without the url. If that is the case, hubpages will not red flag the article. Use the external links in the edit content capsules to promote other hubbers url's or addresses of their article. I have known of hubbers who list up to six external links. You should not list too many external links or the reader may begin scanning instead of reading. Continue to give hubluv, just use the external links instead of the internal links.

Hi Lindagoffigan,

From my experience and for Hubpages letting me do this, your right, no more than two external links to the same website BUT I have many Hubs which have been approved with dozens of different external links. Using more than two external links to the same website is considered overly promotional but you can place many different external links within your Hubs.

Good Hub you have and you must truly love to write. You write very well and I can't believe you have so many Hubs. I'll browse through your profile to read more of your Hubs.

mailxpress, thank you for your comment. The monetizing links are internal and is basically a part of how the Google Search Engine communicates. If you use external links, basically advertising is going to the external link because Google is redirected.

I have done quite a lot of reading on search engine optimization and each hubpage writer should include at least two internal links to get recognized by Google Adsense.

I am consistent in my writing having the goal of writing daily with relevance as I now have an interested audience. After a nine month membership at Hubpages, and writing exclusively for hubpages, I really have some catching up to do.
