The Importance of Personal Emergency Preparedness
60Being prepared for an emergency is our responsibility
At various levels in our life, from preschool fire drills to public meetings, we are inundated with disaster and emergency information. It has become daily living to be in fear of what is coming. With knowledge, we can overcome fear. Initial search will reveal disaster information to be found on http://www.fema.gov/hazard/index.shtm, which comes to you from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. With the organization of FEMA, our lives became part of the “demographics” and we are not thought of as individuals, anymore. We can, however, take advantage of the information provided to again claim our value and worth for surviving a disaster.
To prepare for an emergency, you must first know the hazards that you face. Once you determine what you are up against, prepare a plan for surviving the disaster, test the plan, have an emergency kit available with life-supporting items that are easily accessible or can be taken along if you must leave your home or office for an extended period of time. Check out your communities options for sheltering and sustenance. Keep these things in mind when developing the emergency plan for your family.
In researching and gaining knowledge on this topic, I generated a website for families called Personal Emergency Management. It can be found at http://www.sajama09.com/. There are many resources at your disposal. Take advantage of them, now, before they are needed.
