The joy of writing; marketing yourself to get paid more, making your “Good Client List” longer, and from my point of view, getting paid a lot of money for simple writing assignments.  Of course you do not want to pass up a $500.00 dollar article job on a Saturday.

Writing, writing, writing!  The joy of writing can only be described as getting paid for your hard-working efforts and smelling that first cup of coffee in the morning as you journey down the road to your next, paid-writing assignment.  It’s like you’re on “$5000.00 Dollars Per Month Writer Road” and on this road are clients willing to pay for your style of writing!  Or maybe it’s the joy of not getting paid but enjoying writing as a hobby.  Whatever your case might be, a good night’s sleep and coffee are only two important ingredients for being a productive writer.  And for some reason, drinking coffee in the morning does make your mind sharp like J.R.R. Tolkien’s quill!  Coffee and a good night’s sleep isn’t enough for my writing skills.  A good vocabulary and reading online articles about current topics everyday add more to my writing style and that’s how I describe my idea of how writing brings joy to my life.  Oh and being a fast-typist also helps me out too because I consider myself being more productive by blasting out 70 words per minute on the keyboard.  Just don’t write a hundred articles at a dollar per 500 word article pay rate because you will get paid pennies for taking on those jobs being operated by article mills.  Just looking at that $1.00 per article pay rate is not joyous!  Lastly, organization skills is also a must because if you can’t organize the ideas in your brain into words and form sentences quickly and correctly, the entire world of great literature and writing will call you a “scatter brain.”  “Scatter brain” makes me laugh so hard.  Did I miss anything so far about the joy of writing from my point of view?

The joy of freelance writing can be joyous or evil!  Make sure you discuss compensation, pay rate, how much you charge per word, per 500 words, per 1000 words, etc. because clients will burn you meaning after all your hard-working efforts, you won’t get paid one penny.  But hey, if you had a million clients paying a dollar for each writing assignment, you’ll think you’ve secured $1 million dollars into your checking account right?  Not all clients will pay so make sure you get paid up front or discuss a method of payment such as a free Pay Pal account, wire transfer, check in the mail, etc.  Also, state your terms of work or agreement meaning you won’t begin work until you’ve been paid at least half of the writing assignment up front.

The Internet is filled with so many writing jobs across every topic you can think of from that new mobile phone to the latest buzz about America’s government.  Politics are so boring but anyway, most of the writing jobs online can be deceptive when you get those replies to pornographic web sites or become part of a “zombie” infected emailing server that sends out spam emails by the millisecond to your inbox.  That doesn’t drive me away though from sending 30 emails everyday to clients online looking for writers, it just makes my idea of job hunting a lot more exciting!  Most of the time, I write sample articles right off the bat and I follow what the client wants or I’ll try and engage the clients interest in a different, but fun manner.  When I see job ads for $300.00 dollars per article, I’m the first one to jump right on it and it’s possible to make $300.00 in less than an hour writing a 500 word article which is joyous for me because I celebrate by paying off my entire credit card bill with that $300.00 dollars.  Landing that $300.00 dollar writing assignment is great because you now have a reputable client for future assignments; just make sure you get paid because sometimes you won’t, trust me on this one.  And not all clients will enjoy your style of writing so the more emails you send out everyday, the better your chances are at getting hired because say for example you send out only 10 emails a day; the entire Internet population of freelance writers which I assume is beyond 5 million, there are currently 4 billion Internet users, have already applied or responded to that same job ad so you’ll have more chances of getting hired as a contract writer if you send out more emails everyday.  It takes time but it’s possible to earn a respectable wage as a freelance writer and the way to get there is to be at the top of the list for applying to online writing jobs.

Once you have a list of clients established, I guess you can call yourself a freelance writer and the longer the list, the better your chances are at working from home full-time and telling all your friends you just landed a full-time telecommuting job.  Your client list needs to be long because there will be times when you won’t get any work at all and the next day, your inbox will be flooded with maybe 20 writing assignments, some of them due within the next 2 hours, some of them due within a week, one about this topic and the other about that topic.  Weeding through multiple assignments brings a lot of joy to my heart and writing the due dates on my calendar and a “mock” paycheck for that month brings even more joy which makes me want to write more and more.  Weeding through the bad clients, trust me you will get bad ones that use the “f” word in their daily email communications to you, is also another thing to consider but don’t cross them off your client list just yet, put them on your “Bad Client List” for now.  You might need those bad clients when times are tough and for Americans, times are really tough right now!

And there you have it, the joy of writing from my point of view, getting paid for what I love most, and secondly, living as a freelance writer.  I’m still changing up my work schedule and would like to get paid $300.00 dollars or more for every 500 word writing assignment so I can enjoy at least 20 extra days off each month.  10 days multiplied by $300.00 dollars amounts to $3000.00 dollars every month which is not bad working only 2 hours each day.  I’m currently getting one of my clients that give me writing assignments about health and fitness to pay $50.00 dollars per 500 words instead of $35.00 dollars.
