Creating a Non-profit Government Sponsored Insurance Plan to Complete Alongside Private Insurers

The Washington Posts reports that the key feature of the Obama Health Care Plan is to create a non-profit government sponsored program to complete alongside private insurers.  It is Obama hope to have the bill passed into law effective September 15, 2009.

President Obama has been speaking at town hall meeting across the country to gather support for the health care reform bill.  President Obama is saying that the government plan will provide a way to save the consumer money and will keep the insurance industry honest.  Although the public option is basically the key feature of the Obama Health Care Reform Bill, he says that it is only "one sliver of it."   The Finance Comittee of the Senate is seeking a bipartisan consensus but has met with opposition and it is unlikely that the bill will be passed into law by Obama's expectant proposal date. On Foxs News Sunday, a prominent Senator from North Dakota said that Congress will not be "bound by any deadline."  Presently, there is not enough support from the Senate for the public insurance option. Liberals in Congress are proponents of the non-profit government run health care reform plan.

Senators such as Orrin Hatch, Republican from Utah, says that the government plan will destroy the current Insurance system.  However, President Obama stated that "In the coming weeks, the cynics and the naysayers will continue to exploit fear and concerns for political gain.  But for all the scare tactics out there, what is truly scary--truly risky--is the prospect of doing nothing."

Others are disagreeing and saying that the public option is not the central feature of Obama Health Care Reform Bill. White House Press Secretary is saying that he will be satisfied if private insurance companies have choice and competition.  It is Mr. Gibbs opinion that the private insurance companies should be concerned about the effect of public option on their insurance premiums.

President Obama has just completed a western stretch of  town hall meetings to get support for the signature policy initiatives.  Activists have been lobbying their lawmakers to battle intensely against the Obama Health Care Reform Bill.  Republicans and a few Democrats are getting frustrated with the health care battle as more people join the unemployed roles with retirement accounts dissolving and poor hospital treatment. A union official said that Obama's Health Care Reform Plan is "gaining ground" and thinks that the time set of its passage is ample time for the legislatures.  He stated that a longer wait would not increase the odds of success.  The main purpose though not the key feature of the Obama Health Care Reform Bill is to insure 47 million uninsured Americans and to control medical costs.

Howard Dean head of a grass roots group called Americans for Democracy said that the Obama Health Care Reform Bill is not worth passing without the main feature which is the public option.

Linda, we are now finding out that Obama only cares about passing a bill just so he can claim he "changed" America. Baucus is now trying to charge people a fine for not getting insurance. This would be like an initiative for feeding the poor, bringing the food, but charging them for the food they already can't afford.

Jimmy Boyd, thank you for your comment. Would not change be good if he could insure 47 million Americans regardless of why he is seeking to pass the health care bill? I need a link to gather information about the second part of your respond before I can answer your remark. Your comment is much appreciated.
