The King of Pop - a tribute in words and photos to Michael Jackson
67On Thursday, June 25th, 2009, the world lost a music icon.
Michael Jackson's musical career spanned over 4 decades, as early back as the Jackson 5 with his siblings, to his album Invincible, released in October of 2001, and duets and performances thereafter. Along the way, he influenced many rising musicians, old and young alike. My mom, a couple years older than Michael, grew up enjoying his music, watching him progress into adulthood, all the while producing numerous hits that topped the charts frequently. Last night I dug through my husband's record collection and found several of Michael Jackson's albums. My young daughters and I had a fun time rocking out to some of his hits, including Thriller, and Bad, The Way You Make Me Feel, and Man in the Mirror. His music is uplifting, great to dance to, and inspirational. It's no wonder he was crowned the King of Pop. Michael defined this musical genre - he had the style, the moves, and the amazing voice that was, and still is, one in a million.
The man that Michael Jackson became the last half of his life was a mystery. An unusual figure, when he allowed the world to get a glimpse of him. He was portrayed as possibly sickly, with his masks, diminishing stature, pale skin, and sometimes in a wheelchair. He had been through allegations of child molestation, furthering the negative opinion people had about him. At the end of his life, Michael struggled financially. However, I think it is important that we remember him for what he did best: make music. His personal life and fashion sense aside, Michael provided us with some sensational hits. Thriller, Billie Jean, Man in the Mirror, Bad, Rock With You, Black or White, and Beat It, to name a few. To have respect for someone who has left this life, may the essence of Michael Jackson live on, in fans when they hear his music, his young children, and musicians and performers worldwide that can draw inspiration from his amazing voice and dance moves. We are forever indebted to you, Michael, for your immense contribution to the entertainment industry.
Thank you, Michael Jackson, for everything.

It's a shame that MJ died so suddenly! He must've been in a lot of pain to have been taking the medications the way he was. While I agree that lots of prescription drugs can cause harmful side effects, I think the benefits outweigh of them outweigh the miniscule chances of side effects. MJ was taking an anesthetic, that had no place in a private home - it was being used improperly, hence the fatal results.
May Michael's music and legend live on!
I think it is awful that they were calling Michael the Golden Goose.
That's right. I heard that on cnn last night. They kept on feeding him pills so he could keep on performing.
THAT is what you do so mice will touch a bar for food.
Just so sad.

That is why everyone should boycott pharmaceuticals and start using natural medicines that don't have toxic side effects. Too many people die from prescription drug poisonings.
Michael was so great at his art, he will be sorely missed by all people of all races and all ages.
